How long does it take to hear back?

At the start of week I applied for a new job! Trainee Manager in retail! I have 12years + expiernce in retail and I’m 25! I wrote a brilliant cover letter, and feel my CV fits the bill perfectly!

So 2 days after applying I was sent an online questionnaire. As I was doing it, it felt easy! Now the ad for this position has gone offline, and I haven’t heard anything since!

I’m now starting to think that I answered the questions wrong!

How long do you think I wait before giving up hope?

They are either filtering through the applications. Or you've just been unlucky.

Just because the stars align and you have the skills for the job doesn't necessarily mean you'll get it. If you've found it easy, other people may have too.

Best not to be too hopeful. It's not unheard of for over 100 people to apply for one advertised position. Rejection emails/calls/letters, if done, may be sent weeks later. Many companies without automated systems don't even bother responding.

A small point but if you used as many exclamation marks in your responses as you did in your post your application will probably be in the recycle bin right now. Also some spelling and grammar issues.

Don't get your hopes up is all I'm saying. Good luck anyway.

Yeah, I say if I hear nothing by Monday evening then it’s a no go?

I done my cover letter and CV on my laptop, so I can spell check. No not as many exclamation marks but a few emoji’s 😂 joke

Not necessarily its not uncommon for things like this to take 2 weeks or more. Just sit back and wait in hope. I appreciate you've all that experience aswell but definitely find ways to stand out, I.e. Killer selling points

    From my experience:

    1) Do not count on expectations - if you believe & count on one application you will let yourself down.
    2) Submit multiple applications (i.e. to other companies at the same time) & do NOT count on any of them no matter what they may say in the interim!
    3) The only job that counts is the one that you GET!
    4) Even having applied for a job & receiving an interview date etc, please go ahead and apply for other jobs in the interim. As there is no guarantee that you will get the other jobs you went for.
    5) It is a matter of trying...continuously!

With some companies it can be a total mess in terms of their time-frames.

It’s boards, not the most important letter ever written. If you understood the message it’s good enough

Anytime an OP comes here their spelling gets picked apart and told they are almost not good enough for a job  Are all your Facebook posts written the same as your work emails? No don’t think so

With my exp of applying for jobs it could be 3 weeks before you are called for a Interview or be rejected if I get a interview say the day after I apply I am woirred big time as I am thinking why are you trying to hire me so fast ?.

My job that I am in now I applied start of May. Interview end off may. 2nd interview middle of June and 3rd interview the same time. Signed contract in the start of July started Aug. So it proves the right job can take up to 3 months between interviews contacts notice and start dates.

Once you realise you won t get feedback from every job you apply for you be flying it. All ways keep applying for other jobs and do it on to the day you start your new job as on to your sitting in that desk the job isn't yours even with a signed contact
