Applying for Jobseekers Benefit when returning from living abroad

    Hi all,
Wondering if someone can offer me some advice. I plan to return back to Ireland for good in early 2018, after living and working abroad for the past 2 years. My question is, will myself and my partner be eligible for jobseekers benefit upon our return? We'd really hope to have work lined up before we get back, but I want to plan in case it takes longer than expected. I will be able to prove that we are home for good, as we will be able to show proof of job resignation, end of tenancy, one way flight ticket, bank account closure etc.
Has anyone else been in this position, and if so, can you let me know what to expect? What is the average time taken to start the payment, and what do I need to do (aside from visiting my social welfare office)? I have never claimed any form of social welfare payment in the past, and intend to live in my family home for a while as I settle back home in Ireland. I am 27, and have been paying PSRI since the age of 20 (I moved abroad at 25).
Any help or advice would be hugely appreciated, cheers!

Thank you very much! I have myself in a bit of a flap, as I was without work for around 5 months when I moved to Canada, and I'd be terrified of being in that position again (I obviously had no benefits in Canada). I'm reading some articles and it looks like as long as I satisfy the HRC requirements. Can I ask how long it took for you to get your benefits after applying? This is all new to me, so I'd like to make sure I don't leave myself short in case it takes longer to find a job in Ireland.

    Cheers!

Superstar, thank you! I want to be ahead of myself so I'm not stressing last minute. Hope you settled back home nicely :)

Once you're Irish you satisfy HRC requirements. It didn't take me long. 2 weeks I think. They just look for proof that your done with Canada or wherever. Have proof that you left your job, you've closed bank accounts and you bought a 1 way ticket. You'll be sweet as then.

This isn't correct. Returning Irish emigrants do have to meet the HRC. not sure if this thread is still open but I was travelling in the USA for three months this summer and I have been told I need to fill out the HRC form in order to get dole. I cant provide end of tenacy or bank statements or anything like that because I did not have a bank account over there and I was just staying with friends as I was visiting them? Is there any way around this?
