Fuel card debt

    Hi,

Just wondering does anyone have any experience with fuel card debt?

I had a fuel card, there was an issue with my bank account & the direct debit bounced 3 times. The owed money has since been paid & the company is now demanding €30 for each missed Direct Debit (So €90 in total which is ridiculous and unaffordable).

Does any have experience with this and what happens if you refuse to pay the €90?

Only serious answers please and no trolls.

    TIA 😉

I was in a similar position, phoned and told them to shove the failed dd charge, haven’t heard anything since. I also haven’t used the card since, been 3 years now.

No experience with this, but usually a failed direct debit is €10, €30 for each case is ridiculous.

Some of them are cowboys - I had a €30 fee levied on me earlier this year when I was in the middle of changing banks and the DD wasn't set up in time. Paid the balance in full by card over the phone and on the next statement saw a €30 late payment fee. They refused to remove it so I complained to the Financial Ombudsman - really quick online process here https://www.financialombudsman.ie/complaint-form.aspx?m=2

The Ombudsman sent them a letter and copied me and within a day or two i got a call to from the fuel card company saying they'd made an error, really sorry and have withdrawn the fee and could I please contact the Ombudsman to withdraw the complaint.....which I did after a month or so :)

But surely the 30Euro failed DD fee is something thats stipulated at the beginning and something you agree to before using the card ?

Whatever issues you have with your bank account are not the fuel card company's problem or concern.

Its not the application of the fee, I accept it creates admin, its the size of the fee that irks me. The original documentation said a late payment fee 'may' apply but didn't state the amount - look at the OP - €90 is very heavy handed.
