Self Assessment - No Employer Number

    Hi,

I work for a foreign government in Ireland and this is my first time doing a PAYE return.

It is asking for an employer's number, however my employer does not have one in Ireland. Does anyone know what I put down as the usual "N/A" and "Not Applicable" do not work.

    Thanks!

If your working in an embassy, technically this wouldn't be considered as Irish employment income as an embassy is foreign jurisdiction. Was tax deducted from your weekly pay? If so, it may have been the equivalent of PAYE in the country of the embassy. Generally you would return the income as foreign source employment income on your tax return, if any foreign tax has been paid, you may be able to get credit for this. It will all depend on the country and the double tax agreement in place.
