Samsung smart TV backlight

    Hello all,

I've recently having a problem with my Samsung smart TV. About 3 months ago a dark shaded line about an inch wide developed on the screen about two thirds from the bottom. Was a minor inconvience at the time.

However just since the weekend gone the line has since doubled in size and now a sizeable section of the middle of the screen is significantly darker than the rest of the screen. See pics attached.

I did some googling and I think I have self diagnosed it as two strips of the LED backlight behind the screen failing to illuminate?

Could anyone back my claim up and instruct me on what I should do next to try and fix this problem. I'm annoyed that this television is giving me trouble after only 2 years of use.

Bring it back to where you purchased it, I think your statutory rights cover you for up to 6 years in some circumstances. Check out the Citizens Advice Board website.

As for your diagnosis of the fault, if your screen has a definite dark line it's unlikely to be an LED. Depending on screen size it may just have a single line of LEDs along the bottom of the screen, or along top and bottom for larger screens or on all 4 sides (rare).

A single LED on any of the sides failing wouldn't give a distinct dark line but rather a more shaded look. Either way LCD panels are not repairable by end users so most likely should be taken back to the shop.

I don't see the photos by the way.

    Ken
