    Hi all,

Back in Ireland for about a month, looking for a good deal on a data SIM for about a month, all suggestions welcome!

    Hi Dave

Most companies will give you a 'free' SIM, and you then pay for a package after that.

Firstly, do you consume a lot of data or is speed a bigger criterion for you?
Do you know whereabouts in the country you will be using the data mostly?

Some places in the country are very well served by a number of providers, up to 4G in places, but in other places you'll be lucky to get a basic Edge signal. There are lots of black spots and indoor coverage can be a lot worse than outdoor. If you're in a town/city, most of the main players will be able to provide a package that gives you 15GB of data at reasonable speeds. Three claim an 'all you can eat' data package at more or less the same price as the others, but I think there is a Fair Usage Policy that really means it is capped at some level, just higher than say Vodafone or Eir.

If you're going to be mostly outside main urban locations, then you'll probably need to look more closely at the coverage maps (not that they're absolutely accurate or anything) to see if coverage is good enough for your needs.

The main providers to consider are:

    Eir
    Vodafone
    Three

Smaller niche players such as Tesco Mobile and 48 also operate on top of parts of the Three network, but their coverage may not be as good/extensive.

HTH. Enjoy your month in Ireland.:)

    30 euro / 50GB from Eir.
You can get a SIM in an Eir store, just make sure it's set up before you leave the store. The change over from Meteor to Eir has caused a few glitches, one of which is outlined in this thread.
