Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Been parking in Booterstown car park for the last 4-5 years. Was told this morning that I can no longer park here, unless I'm a commuter. I cycle in.

Issue has only arisen because of an influx of builders suddenly parking here. I'm paid up until the 18th of October. Where do I stand? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

You've paid for parking, what could they possibly do?

The NCPS official at the station couldn't clarify if I'd get clamped or not. Anyhoo got a reply.

    Hi,

If you are paid up till the 18th you are ok for now ,but going forward you will not be able to use the parking unless you are using the train

to be honest, it really shouldn't matter to them what you use. They only enforce payment.

No obligation for you to use the train, it's a car park, once you have paid then that's all that matters.

    Thanks for the replies.

They don't 'only enforce payment', they also enforce time limits where there is no charge for parking like in a lot of shopping centres. On the Headfort Road in Galway there are two shopping centres on opposite sides of the road. Neither of them charges for parking but if you arrive and park in the car park of one shopping centre and all of the people in the car then walk across the road to the other shopping centre, there is a guy in a first floor office keeping an eye on things who will tell his colleagues at ground level to clamp you because a condition of parking in each car park is that at least one person in the car goes into that shopping centre before they go anywhere else.

Irish Rail can set the rules and get NCPS to enforce them. And those rules can involve satisfying conditions beyond than simply paying for parking. Same rules would apply in the small car park opposite Blackrock Dart Station.

And a similar thing could happen in blanchardstown with westend shopping centre. But those are spaces provided freely, for customers there. If you had to pay for parking, they can't clamp you once you've a valid ticket.

iirc the Luas car park at Carrickmines is the same - they say it's exclusively for luas (I looked into it to park and cycle as well).

Yes they can. All they have to do is put up a sign saying that you must pay the charge and be using the Dart and if you fail to comply with both conditions, they can clamp you. Which means that if the OP arrives, parks his car and then hops up on his bike, they can clamp him, whether he has paid or not.

It's private property - observe the terms and conditions or go elsewhere.

There are two car parks outside the Dart station in Blackrock, a large one for general traffic and a smaller car park for Dart users - same rules apply.

Agreed but do they have a sign stating that it's only for train users and how will they be able to enforce it?

A sign is of no use if it's not enforced.

There's a sign up, checked this morning. Not sure how long the NCPS official is gonna hang around for?
