Obsessed with how I look/Body dysmorphia

I have become obsessed with how I look to the point I'm becoming distressed. When I was in my early-mid 20s I would have considered myself to be pretty but now I'm in my late 20s I feel so ugly. I don't know what changed but somewhere along the way I feel I lost my looks.

I know this sounds very superficial but it's causing me a lot of pain. I was always self conscious but since a recent break up it's gotten out of hand. I am starting to wonder if I may have body dysmorphia because I spend all my time thinking I'm disgusting and thinking others are probably thinking the same. I got my lips done as I thought it would help but it didn't. Now I'm desperately trying to lose weight even though I'm not overweight. Somehow I think it will help. I've no idea how to deal with this. I am going travelling soon so there is not much point in entering into counselling. Can anyone relate or offer any advice? Thank you.

The only advice anyone can give you is to go receiving counselling, which you've said you're unable to do.

With these kind of issues, the only real help someone should get is from professionals.

    Hi OP

These days, with the amount of young women out there with perfect selfies on social media - it's a wonder any girl under the age of 30 isn't an insecure wreck about the way she looks. It used to just be celebrities you'd see airbrushed beyond recognition in magazines - now it's every second girl you know on Facebook touched-up in Photoshop, and then even half of them are probably just as self-conscious as you.

Help with what, exactly? What's the end goal here?

Is it to fit into a size 8? Or do you somehow think you are taking back control of your life by what you put in your mouth/body? If it's the latter, sounds like you're well on your way to anorexia or a similar disorder.

Honestly, you seem so quick to shut down counseling - before anyone could even mention it, even - that it's hard to believe you'll listen to any advice given here.

Go travel, if that's what you want. Maybe it will help you see there's more to life than what you think other people see when they look at you.

don't be so quick to qrite off counselling. if you genuinely want help with this issue you are going to need to talk to a professional. something like this could easily tip over into something more serious, and tbh life is worth a lot more than that.

    good luck
