    Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster.

I'm currently looking to buy an executive coupe/saloon so looking for any pointers at the moment.

I'm looking at 06-08 3 series coupes and same years Lexus ISs but finding the right one is proving tricky. I know I want petrol, manual and ideally a 2.5l engine as I want some power in whatever i buy and economy isn't really an issue (reliability is though!!).

What's the consensus on these two types of car around here? Is there anything else I should be thinking of?

    Cheers.

You will have hard time finding a good E92 325 for that kind of money. E90 325 is a different story - so maybe just look for a saloon and you'll be happy camper.

Can't really go wrong with an IS250

    What about a mazda cx7? 260bhp 2.3l engine. Can pick up a 08 for about 3k.
Plenty of spec and reviews suggest they are reliable.

Not so good on juice though. But if that's not an issue plenty of car for the money.

A SUV is a world apart from a coupe/saloon though.

Fair point. Reviews say though that they handle more like a saloon than an Suv. Not sure how true that is.

I've (almost) bought a 07 325, you'd be looking 6-7 k for a 07. Not a hope of an 08 for that money, they're 3l and cheap tax so far more expensive. They're literally all SE models too. Mine is well specced but I've only seen one or two that comes close.

Handling wise it is only Alfa Stelvio that's worth mentioning...

They're the same people that say vans drive like cars though. What they mean is that it isn't a total lumbering behemoth as opposed to it being a 3 series/Is rival in the handling stakes.

Thanks for the replys so far.

I'm not interested in SUVs at all I'm afraid, really only looking at exec cars/coupes and that narrows me down a lot as I also only want manual + petrol.

Iv seen a few lovely 320i Coupes but I don't think I could forgive one the lack of power!

Above poster is dead right about the 08 models mind, I don't really mind the number on the reg so long as I can find the right car!

Has anybody much experience of the Lexus v BMW? I can't identify anything else that will give me what I want so I really think im down to these two so any opinions/ experiences of either would be fantastic.

    Cheers.
