    Title = TBS 6909******

Just got one of these on ebay for a good price I think.

We have a sky dish with an lnb that has 4 outputs, 3 used at the moment, 2 to a sky hd recorder box and 1 multi room no recording..

Am I right in thinking I only to buy 4 cables for this to work? It has 8 tuners but 4 inputs

Plug it into the sky dish exactly as it is, and I will have watching/recording of more things at the one time than I will know what to do with

Plan would be to stick one input into the already empty input on the lnb.. get it set up and working 100% with tvheadend, and then go about cancelling sky?

Do I need to know anything else or am I right thinking it's that straight forward?

    thanks

Yes you can tune in 8 complete transponders with that card.

Basically you should be able to manage things as you outlined.

BTW, what do you intend to use to run tvheadend?

Thanks that sounds exactly what I was after so just a simple drop in and working with the sky dish as is
I got an IBM tower x3400 m3 running esxi and then a Debian vm with docker on top, I have my dvb t stick inside that now and it's working (and yes.. inside! there's a place for a usb stick inside and its right beside a fan so the stick doesn't get hot)

I got the tbs card for 160 euro + shipping.. Couldn't turn it down at half price for brand new

Wow! what a price for that card ;)

That IBM is a serious piece of kit :D

Yes I too had a USB DVB-T stick inside for a while but I could never get comfortable with the cable entry in my case. :D I changed to a USB flash stick and ran an OS from it :)

Yeah was happy with the price had my eye on them but just bit the bullet at half price

I have the hypervisor booting from an external USB it should go in the case but thought the cooling would be better for the USB Dvb t. I still need to connect to the aerial on the roof for that at the moment just using the little free aerial that came with it.

The ibm tower was free, it'll use a lot of power but it'll be doing a few jobs so I can turn off my main PC.. Which will probably result in similar electricity bills in the end

I agree most of the DVB-T sticks need cooling (not much but some air flow).

I wish I could use use one of those tiny aerials that come with the sticks, but unfortunately I am too far from a transmitter :)

I have ordered a couple of these to help organise a few DVB-T sticks in a case. I should be better able to organise the cable internally.

It arrived today and only getting to play with it now, I have it in the server and lspci shows
13:00.0 Multimedia controller: TBS Technologies DVB-S2 4 Tuner PCIe Card

That should be 8 tuner.. can't find much in the way of support or others having this exact issue but I'm going to continue trying to get it to work anyway

I suspect this could be due to the choice of LNB in Tvheadend.
I haven't used one of those but would wonder if '4 port switch' is what you need to select?

I see it is also Unicable compatible!

Haven't really got that far yet I am not seeing it come up as an adaptor

it's there on lspci (but as a 4 tuner)

but after trying to install the open source TBS driver nothing really happened, so i'm not seeing it mounted at /dev/dvb or anything like that.

Might try using the closed source driver.. although the open source one is around ages now and definitely supports this card

You could try running LibreElec from a USB stick and check what tvheadend sees from there.
It could at least confirm that everything is working in the card.
    ;)

that is a good idea, I have too many moving parts with this since it's being passed through with esxi.. better to get it working in more simple form first

Finally got around to setting this up 2 months on..

For now I've thrown away the esxi aspect, it's just tvheadend running on debian.

I have 1 cable going to the quad lnb, other 3 outputs are going to a sky hd box and a multiroom box. they'll be phased out eventually

I have lots of channels showing up and some making it to the epg but not all and also I don't have proper 7 day epg yet so I'll have to figure out what I'm doing wrong for pulling epg data
