Solicitor increasing fees

We are in the process of buying an apartment in Dublin and the solicitor has emailed saying he is going to have to review the fee we were quoted at the start.

Can he do this? The initial letter stated:

"We feel that the professional fee we've quoted reflects the level of work needed to ensure that all title, planning and management company issues are fully investigated and to ensure that you are in a position to make an informed decision about the property you're buying."

There has been no indication we are an "unusual" case to date.

    Thanks for any input .

At what stage of buying are you in? Have they done any work already?

Yes - we are just about to close.

Write to the Law Society seeking their opinion. CC your solicitor.

That will probably get your solicitors back up which would not be in your best interest. Better to ask solicitor first for justification on the increase in fees. If you're not happy with that, then take it further
