    Hi,
Audi A5, and this morning i was 30 minutes in the car, and put the defogger/demister on the back window 3 times, and it still wasnt clear by the time i got to work. My old car it would be clear in minutes, just wondering maybe this normal maybe on an Audi, or maybe its a diesel/petrol thing?

If its not normal, what could be the cause? It will be a total pain when the weather really gets cold and frosty.

If it cleared eventually then the grid works.
Maybe your car just has a lot of condensation inside?

Try increasing the airflow into the car, use the fan on a medium to high setting and make sure that recirculation is switched off. Use a/c if you have it and fogged windows will be a thing of the past.

Was it actually light fog/mist on the window or heavy dew on the outside of the window.

If it's the latter, it would obviously take quite a bit longer to evaporate off seeing as the heating elements are on the inside of the window.

If it was heavy condensation on the inside of the rear window, you have too much moisture in your car. Pick up moisture traps in your local hardware and leave them in the car, it'll cure the problem gradually over a few weeks. Worked a treat in my car, probably got about a litre of water out of it.

When was the last time the window was cleaned properly? Dirty windows attract more moisture.

    Doesn't sound normal.
Maybe it's just not working at all, and fact that condensation disappeared withing 30 minutes was just because it got warmer in the car.

Try using the air conditioning in conjunction with the rear demister.

I run a/c all the time, and I've never needed to use the rear demester once.

I also keep the windows clean by using a glass polish

    Yeaah for me

Car was coated in thick layer heavy dew this morning - no internal condensation. Single flick of the wipers (front and rear) cleared completely - heated rear would have taken >30 mins. If I didn't have rear wipers then I would have taken a squeegee to it before setting off...

You would be surprised the amount of people who think air conditioning is only to be used on the 5 or so warm days we get a year.

Exactly. Mine was also coated in heavy dew but had to wipe the windows the good old fashioned way as i have no rear wiper. (A5 doesnt have one either afaik)

Not a job I’d expect the rear demister to do!

Are you a surfer, sailor etc... ? Sometimes the soft furnishings get soaked from gear and a warm day with a dehumidifier in the car is needed.

I do this all the time.
