Android Auto - a mind of it's own!!

    Hi all,

I use Android Auto in my car. It's not an Android Auto "compatible" car i.e. Android Auto doesn't display on the car's own infotainment screen so I just use it via Bluetooth and it works pretty well but the one thing which frustrates me is the list of either destinations or contacts it displays on the "home" screen is mental.

I sometimes see proposed destinations listed which I've never been to and don't have saved as favourites on Google Maps. Similarly it will list call buttons for all sorts of people but frequently not the ones I either call most or the most recent calls.

Does anyone know how Android Auto determines what destination buttons it displays and/or what contact phone numbers it displays and is there any way to tailor or customise those? I've been through all the settings and can't see anything.

It also has a mind of it's own ref the last played media content which it automatically starts playing when connected to the car's Bluetooth. I generally listen to audiobooks but if someone else has been playing Spotify via Bluetooth in the car their last song comes up on my Android Auto home screen when I next connect to the car.

    Anyone else having similar issues?

I've noticed that it'll pick up destinations from things you've searched for on Google or Google Maps. As for the contacts, I'm not sure

I've mine converted the same way as yours. Mine displays the last 2 maps navigation searches or last 2 places I've google searched and last 2 call numbers

    Hi guys,

I recently had to do a factory reset on my phone due to a problem with an app and reinstall all apps, set up all settings etc but for the life of me I can't get Android Auto to auto launch behind a locked screen like it used to.

In the past as soon as my phone connected to my car Bluetooth it auto launched Android Auto which then stayed as the active screen until disconnected from the car's Bluetooth but now for some reason even though the phone auto connects to the phone and Android Auto "launches" as it should when the phone is connected to my cars Bluetooth it stays behind the lockscreen so in order to access the Android Auto acreen I have to first unlock the screen as normal which sems to defeat the purpose of Android Auto. The fact the screen automatically reverts to the lock screen after 2 minutes of inactivity means I'm constantly having to unlock the screen during journeys!!

I've feeling the problem is somehow related to smart unlock but I'm now at a stage where I'm properly confused and would apreciate some help!!

    All suggestions etc greatly appreciated.

Is your Google account signed in on anyone elses phone that may be googling these places/calling these numbers?

    There's always a logical explanation.

Thanks Testarossa40, I actually made some changes to my settings including increasing the Display sleep setting to 5 minutes and I enabled Smart Lock within which the phone uses the cars Bluetooth as a trusted device.

The result is that Android Auto now launches on connection to the cars Bluetooth (as it always had) but now it takes control of the screen and stays turned on (if that's the setting I have Android Auto set to) before the screen goes to sleep and becomes locked.

    Fixed for now anyway!!

Android auto now has Google assistant installed, works well from trying it out this morning.

    I agree.
It's working much better for me now too.
At times in the past it looked like there was an argument going on in the background between Assistant and Google Now. There were two different voices, and at times they seemed to switch between two different bluetooth modes (Handsfree and A2DP) which was slowing everything down and locking up the microphone.

Hopefully it'll stay working now, as Android Auto has some really good ideas about what works in a car.
