Why did I get nearly 40% deductions?

    It's 35% of your salary.

    The tax element is 23%.

    The more you earn, the more tax you will pay.

    However, the full 8% was applied to the USC. You'll have to query that with your employer

    At a glance I'd say it's because you are paying emergency tax

    they've only given you 1656 annual tax credit. You should have at least twice this - personal tax credit is 1650 for a single person and PAYE credit is the same again. Also they've charged you too much USC (as mentioned above)

    Should you be entitled to 11 days in August?

    21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31.

    Admittedly, they may be deducting the weekend. Just make sure they do the same calculation when you leave.

    You're being charged Emergency tax based on the taxation basis written on the payslip.

    You are on emergency tax. Speak to your payroll dept as there isnt much more we can tell you here.

    Thats quite a while to be on emergency tax, I'd speak to your payroll asap and see if they did it correctly/at all.

    Alternatively get onto revenue and give them the companys registration number and your start date and they will sort it on their end. Thats what Ive always done.

    You have been emergency taxed. As said get in contact with your employers payroll or HR department to sort it out. This happened me in my first month, I overpaid €300 on a salary €10k less than you so your owed a good chunk back.
