    Hi,

    I have a 2006 BMW 523i. Automatic. Saloon.
    77,000 miles on the clock.

Got a message on iDrive this morning saying that the front brake pads need to be replaced.

Ball park, how much would this cost with an indy ?

grand , prefect, thanks for answer.

Is it a relatively simple job that a standard indy should be able to do ?

At that age you will most likely be looking at discs too, should be a 3-400 job all said and done

    feck, right.

the 3-400 you say above, is that just for the front discs and pads and labour et ?

(i.e not the back ones...................really silly q, do the back have discs and pads also )

Thats for front discs and pads with labour. Rear also has discs and pads and handbrake shoes actually but i'm assuming they are ok (mechanic who sees the car may say otherwise)

right so to do brakes and pads on all 4 tyres would be nearly a grand

    Any indy can do it.
There is no need to buy your own parts.
Check with your finger if there are lips on any of the brake discs (discs should be cold)

grand, whats the reasoning behind "no need to buy your own parts"

are brake pads fairly standard and all around the same quality etc ?

Id say he misread you is all. Brake pads and discs vary in quality and longevity but your indy should get you a quality set. Yes it would cost 600-800 to do all 4 corners but its a bmw you are driving unfortunately not a micra :)

And make sure your mechanic replaces the brake pad wear sensor too. Idrive may also need to be reset afterwards.
