Guys, just got my new hot water cylinder fitted. I am fitting a new cylinder thermostat. It’s a Benico TPS1 stat.

It’s a strap on type, but it also comes with a metal type cord which I’m not sure what’s it’s use?

Can anybody shed some light please?

Basically this metal ring on the right of the attached picture.

    Thanks.

It's for holding the stat in place. It acts like a strap. It goes around the cylinder.

    That’s the white cord yeah?
    What about the metallic cord?

Just 2 different methods of securing it, usually use the white for cylinders and the metal for securing to pipes

Or a combination of both on the cylinder to keep constant tension on it.

I don’t think the metal part will fit around the cylinder?
It’s a 54x18 cylinder. Insulation is then on top of that.

That is why I wrote "a combination of both"

where are you putting the thermostat, top , middle or bottom of the cylinder?
    Where's the best spot?
Also watch out for the aluminium paste. It can stain carpets, floors etc.

And the penny drops just as I’m fitting it :)
A combination of both required. Thanks.

Fitting it about 300mm from the bottom.
