Being Made redundant, notice date

My boss has told me that I am being made redundant due to a company reorg
Does the notice period start from the date I was told, or the date HR tell me or the date on the official letter.
I haven't had the HR letter yet, expecting it this week.
    Thanks

Normally your contract will detail the mount of notice that the company needs to give you

If they don't give you that notice then they need to compensate you.

Most companies will often give a lead date and ask how you feel about it, and give you an option to go earlier

The narrower a man’s mind, the broader his statements.
