Hi all, looking for some help here and hope I’m in the right place.

I’m looking to buy a 2012 2.0 Golf which has 136,000km on it privately. The bloke selling it says there is nothing in the service book regarding the timing belt having been done. What is the recommended interval for having this done and roughly how much would I be looking at to get it done? Also,is there anything else in particular I would need to look out for with this year/model?

    Thanks for any help

The belt is due at 210k kms on those engines.

Up to 2011 it was recommended every 5 years too, that time limit was revised for 2012 onwards to mileage only but the water pumps are iffy in the so no harm to do the belt and water pump at 5 years regardless of mileage.

They aren't too bad a car otherwise, somewhat prone to EGR trouble but not as much as the 1.6 engine.

It's obligatory to mention the emissions update now. In all reality, if the car has had the update and there are no faults on the dash and it feels like it's driving ok then it is ok. Issues from the fix usually present themselves almost immediately after the update.

Match is a UK spec so make sure you have done a proper history check on the car and rang the garages that serviced it.

Was available here for a while as well. Think it was run out of either MK5 or 6.

What sort of cost would I be looking at for T Belt/Water pump should I decide to get it done given that the car is 5 years old?

€450 main dealer and around €350 independent.
