I am off to NYC for halloween with her indoors. We plan on taking a trip out Long Island and a Ford Mondeo is costing us $100 dollars for the day. After a small bit of googling inspired by the thread on fleet car rental I've found this site. For $130 dollars I can get a bmw M235I coupe for the day once I get the subway over to Jersey city. Anybody used this site or have an feedback?

I looked into them last year but there was always a question of insurance. It's wasn't included in the price then and couldn't get a clear answer on how much it would cost.

Also $100 a day? We ended up in a "Ford Explorer or similar" from Hertz for two weeks and paid £377 apparently

BMW 340i x drive booked. I was going to go with the m235i for a similar price but the 3er was an auto and I wanted to make driving over there that little bit smoother and easier. It was the same person renting them so no issue. Cheapest I could find for a Ford Fusion was $112, the 340i was $155. If you're booking for a daily rate only it works out quite dear compared with a weekly rental whether it's a traditional rental company or turo.

You have to go to Jersey because they were banned from operating in NY because of misrepresenting their insurance offering. Turo is Airbnb for cars. Make sure you are covered for insurance for the car, third party liability and your own medical and personal injury costs. IIRC, NY is a no fautl state meaning that any damage to the car caused by a third party is your problem (or the owner's depending on the terms of the Turo contract).

I took the option of renting in NJ, was easy, just get the ferry over from Manhattan (it goes from near the Irish monument) and the Hertz depot was a few minutes walk from the ferry port.

I'm collectng the car on the first stop on the Jersey side of the Hudson. From my hotel to collecting the car is a 45 minute journey according to Google maps. To collect the fusion from Avis was going to be 35 min journey so makes no odds really.

My mate used it in LA during the summer. Dodge Charger, 100 dollars for the car, extra 50 for the insurance. Not sure if same for all but he had a 200 mile limit.

Said it was an excellent setup and would recommend to anyone.

I've had great craic with Turo.

Got a Tesla Model S in Florida used it for a work trip from Orlando to DC instead of flying (saving the boss money :P). Rented a Cadillac ELR in NYC once as well.

No issues with the Irish driving license. A few extra verification steps was all.

Audi S5 booked in Philadelphia next week. I can't see why anybody would use a traditional car rental, especially if a petrol head.

Anyone else had recent experiences with these? Strongly considering them for Florida next month. I’ve read some horror stories online, but then there are just as many horror stories out there for the big car hire companies.
