Pitfalls to avoid with driving instructors

I moved to Ireland from abroad and I had to do my theory test, mandatory driving lessons and driving test although I already can drive. However the teacher I got in Castlebar shattered my confidence and made me believe I will not pass a driving test in Ireland. He insisted I start from the beginning and relearn the correct way to drive and not move on until I got a particular lesson right. It was a nightmare. My mistake was to pay for the 12 lessons upfront. After the 12 lessons with him he said I was not ready and I do not have the skills yet. I knew he was trying it on of course but at the same time I really wasn't sure if my driving will pass the Irish standard. I decided just to have a few extra lessons with another teacher to become familiar with the routes. The other teacher was very good and encouraging. He said I should just do the test as soon as I can. I followed his advice and passed. I hope no newcomer to Ireland makes the same mistake I did. If you want any recommendations, pm me.

Was this the EDT lessons? Did you get a logbook and the lessons stamped?

Sadly it's not just new comers to Ireland it can happen to anyone, I went to one of the bigger driving schools and like yourself paid in full up front. The second lesson I had, the instructor shouted at me in the car, I was so shaken and told him to not shout at me again. I reported it back to the said school and wanted a new instructor, the next guy was nice but he was so laid back, wasn't paying attention and never actually been showed me a turnabout. Even when I mentioned it, I did it on my own.

I then failed my test, so same school, pretest booked, different instructor again. Head in his phone, told me wrong information which I later had to correct. Saw him in for my test, he said I would pass to myself and my boyfriend and I failed worse than the first time. 4 2 hour pretests and 4 failed tests. He kept saying how my last instructor didn't know what he was doing.

I found a new instructor like yourself, and he is amazing. He asks me to pull over and shows me in a book where my position was wrong or what I did ect and watched everything that I do. Which I what you need. My own confidence in my Driving has grown so much. And I'm confident and determined I'd pass it the 5th (sadly) time.

I know it sucks especially when you invested so much money but at least you changed much sooner than I did. I had 3 different instructors from a big school in Dublin and failed every time and practiced what I was taught for hours. Sorry for such a long post.
