Am I pregnant

I slept with a guy last weekend. We used condoms. I thought we were OK. Looking at the calendar, last weekend would be my third week in my cycle. In fact we had sex on day 23 and 24 of my cycle. So it's impossible to get pregnant.

I was due my period this week (on Thursday), it didn't arrive but that's not unusual for me as i sometimes get it a few days early or late but most of the time I have a 28-29 day cycle.

I woke up on Friday morning to some spotting which I thought would be a good sign as I often get something before my period. I thought it was the start of my period and used a tampon. But it came out half full. It's now midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning and my period has completely stopped and what I had was not a period.

I don't know what's wrong. I'm really worried that I may have accidentally got myself pregnant as I was reading online that you can get pregnant late in the cycle, and the bleeding could be implantation bleeding.

It's been quite some time since I have been with a guy, I'm not planning a baby.

You took all of the correct precautions, so the odds are quite low, and it sounds like you did get your period.

However, the only real way to know for sure is a pregnancy test. A trip to the pharmacy should put your mind at ease.

If you are pregnant, big if, a test won't b positive til around 10 days after conception and even at that, it still might not show positive til 14+ days.

Op while it's highly unlikely you're pregnant, it's never impossible to get pregnant. Your chances can be very minimal during certain dates but it's never impossible.
Sometimes it can happen that you get a bit of spotting and think your period has arrived, but then nothing for another few days. Only for it to arrive full on a few days later.

It is possible to get pregnant that late into a cycle, but rare, and usually more probable in cases where women have irregular periods.

First Response tests are the most sensitive on the market. And the pink dye tests tend to be more reliable than the blue dye ones. And they are more sensitive than the ones a GP will use - so don't bother paying the money for a consult yet just for a pregnancy test.

Follow the instructions for the test - use first morning urine and remember that a few hours later (as a test dries out) that second line can sometimes appear as a result of the chemicals in the test. That's called an evaporation line so that's the reason you only read the test after 10 mins (or whatever the instructions say) and discard it afterwards.

If you test negative, in my experience your period often decides to come along soon after, but if it doesn't, you may need to follow up with your GP if you are missing periods. It can happen in times of stress or due to hormones going a bit wonky but usually easily remedied. And while you are there to get your money's worth out of the GP, it's work exploring your own contraceptive options to double up on precautions. This thread in The Ladies Lounge has lots of links of information plus lots of posters have shared their experience of the various contraception options.

Hope it works out for you.
