People were civil as everyone nearly new each other

Boards discussions involved joining a team to battle it out on quake in the main

    An ISDN line was fast

All those early posters are 30 plus now......cringe there late teens forever preserved for future generations

Ah the good old for sale section on boards.
Everyone knew everyone and you wouldnt be asked to trade your new console for a half eaten mars bar.
Much better times.Adverts ruined it all!!!

I could be wrong, but I believe it was an old old wooden ship that was used during the civil war era.

It wasn't always on the level. That lad that bought a CD burner from Bubbles will be remembered forever.

Can't remember who he was though.

There were less than 75,000 posts across the site in 2000. That's about as many as you get in a week nowadays. I'm sure there are some who remember it well, but I suspect it was a very different place in those days

I remember Bubbles. I played quake with him. I met him a few times, not the most socially adapt person (And this is me saying it).

I didn't realise he was the guy who tricked a guy into paying for a taxi in the middle of the night. That poor guy got a hell of a lot of slagging, in real life, for it.

All in all, Bubbles was a bit of a dick. Wouldn't be surprised to see he's on 4chan assisting with gamergate and sh1t like that.

What was the story with this?

Doesn't seem that long ago initially until you consider all the changes that have occurred since then. The first PC in my home was only bought in 2000 along with unbelievably slow and unreliable dial-up internet, while today I've got something in my pocket with as much power.

What was the story with this?

Some poor guy outside Dublin got duped into getting a taxi into the city centre in the middle of the night. He has been chatting to a girl on something like yahoo chat or msn, it was going really well and he hopped into a taxi when she said come see me now. It turned out he'd been talking to a guy. The guy posted his details and the chat transcript onto boards (I think) and it ended up on his colleges forum too. I was a mod on the college forum at the time and I remember cleaning up the threads on it.
