Hi all,
Vanilla are planning an update to the site on April 24th (next Wednesday). It is a major PHP8 update which is expected to boost performance across the site. The site will be down from 7pm and it is expected to take about an hour to complete. We appreciate your patience during the update.

Waste Operator mixing Recycling and Normal Waste

    Hi folks,

    I just the local waste operator mixing recycling and normal waste in the one truck. They first put a recycling on the left lift and normal on the right, followed by normal waste on the left (so I guess there aren't two separate containers). Is that normal, or should I report that to somebody? On their website they claim to sort recycling, but seems unlikely seeing that.

    Noticed that around our way too. No split in the inside of the lorry either, with big double bins going in too. Not sure what the story is.

    Big Incinerators in China are fired continuously on this stuff and alot of our plastic Recycling is just fed in with Coal for power generation.

    Most people are so crap at sorting that the operators have their own sorting lines and sort through conventional waste also.

    Would this be in the Munster region, west of the Shannon?

    I would say this is all over the country. It is so disheartening to sort recyclables every week when you know that most other bins are filled with badly sorted waste. And then the fact that there is so much waste being exported all over the world. It's time to set up proper recycling streams within the country to deal with these valuable resources.
