according to an extremely quick search of the Irish Statute Book, only public service vehicles are supposed to carry them.

To answer your question though, yes I have one. In the car. Along with the HiViz, Bulb kit and brethalyzer that were required for France.

There is no such rule in Ireland, but I have one since I had the car in France where this is a real rule.

Most people I know who have a triangle only have one because it came with the car. Some don't even know they have one.(I fell over one once)
There is generally a high vis somewhere in our car.

Some don't even know they have one.

I passed a garda car (with flashing lights on) parked beside their warning triangle this morning. The warning triangle was in front of some pretty hefty pieces of precast concrete that seemed to have fallen off a lorry.

First time in ages that I actually saw one in use, not that it was required, because the car and lights were a little more obvious.

Really? That's odd! There was a huge kerfuffle a few years ago when I used to drive and everyone was supposed to carry one, or even two! I understood it to have been brought into the law then.

Got curious and started web-hunting. In 2015 it was "proposed" to make it mandatory:

    http://www.rsa.ie/Documents/Road%20Safety/Consultations/RSA_Emergency-Packs-public-consultation-background.pdf

This, at the same period: http://www.independent.ie/life/motoring/car-news/failing-to-have-firstaid-kit-in-car-could-become-penaltypoint-offence-31220915.html

    And TheJournal in its wisdom:

    https://www.thejournal.ie/essential-car-kit-3133648-Dec2016/

This long-ago thread is about it http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056237882

Just a snippet of info, the breathalysers in France are a recommendation, they were never enforced in law.

Not incorrect; I didn't say it was brought into law.

It became law in 2012 in France, the issue now is the associated €11 (yes eleven euro) fine for failure to have one has not become law.

Triangle under the boot lid and hi-viz under the driver's seat - standard on an A3 SE. S-Line model (due to different front seats) has a hidey hole in the back seat where the hi-viz lives.

I have a triangle, hi-viz, torch and most importantly a seat belt cutter and glass hammer - May not need all this for myself however could be useful if I come across someone else in trouble

(The vote is out by one; I voted 'No' since I don't have a car, and so I could see the results easily.)

I don't have one in my car or even carried one ever except for my e39 BMW. It was in the tool kit in the boot. And a first aid kit connected to the passenger front seat.

You have to give it to BMW they think of everything but I suppose when it was new it cost a nice few quid. I have always mostly owned Jap cars which never had any triangle but they did have a flare under the glove box for emergency's. Maybe that's a requirement for Japan I'm not sure.

I've one triangle in the boot, also gave one to ms. jou (as her car came without one), and 2 other triangles still in a shed.

When missus' car went to a dealer for minor warranty issues she obviously got a replacement car - 4 times, 4 different cars. I was curious if they have triangle - checked; none of those had one.

Funny RSA Ireland, which is constantly giving out hi-viz gilets to people who ride bikes and walk, doesn't think to give these out to drivers.

Passed a broken down car on the m50 this evening. Two ladies (correctly) standing behind the Armco, warning triangle 20m up the road.

Granted, that’s probably the first time ever seeing the correct safety process, and two triangles in a week is also new to me ( unless I’m noticing them because of this thread).

What specifically was the problem that caused you to create this thread in the first place? I have to admit not being particularly concerned by either poll result or broken down vehicles in general not being flagged with triangles.

None in mine 172 Civic, thought they were making it mandatory to carry a safety kit in the boot.

You couldn't stress enough the importance of getting out of the car and over the barrier as quickly as possible on a motorway.Even going back to place the triangle is dangerous. If you must do it go back on the inside of the barrier and wait for a gap in the traffic to go out and place it.

I was under the impression most German built cars had them as standard kit.

Certainly the VW and BMWs I've had have had them as standard. The BMWs also have first aid kits.
