Recommendation for fun 3/4 night trip with Children (5&8) in Ireland or England/Scotl

I am planning to take a trip with our 2 daughters during the Halloween break at the beginning of November, and I am wrecking my head on where to go. They are actually quite active, so no problem with traveling or walking etc.

I was/am thinking about Cork, but beside Fota I a not sure what else there is for them to do, especially covering a possible spell of bad weather. Another option I am considering is Edinburgh, which is a place I have never been there myself either.

But I am open to pretty much anything. The kids love their outdoors, i.e. climbing, running, cycling etc., but obviously it needs to be somewhere that ideally also has a few backup options for really bad weather.

Any ideas or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Friend of mine is just back from this Irish Landmark Trust property on the north shore of Belfast lough & said the kids loved it.

Plenty of other spots available for rent on the site too.

Belfast also has the W5 and Titanic museum that will keep them busy for a full day

Those ages are perfect for W5 in Belfast, my kids loved it last year when they went. And since then they have added another Space Base play area as wel (although I think this is an additional cost on top of entry to W5?)

I thought it was expensive enough for a family, but to be fair they got quite a few hours out of it.

Where are you leaving from? And how far are you prepared to travel?

Just realized that I never got back on this, and thought I should update it.

In the end we went for 3 nights to Edinburgh, and I thought it was the perfect choice. Edinburgh is compact enough for walking to most sites, there were loads of things to do and see for the kids, and pricewise it was reasonable as well. We went up Arthur's Seat (quite a hike, but the kids loved it), experienced Dynamic Earth, went to Camera Obscura , did the Castle and the Hop On / Hop Off Bus tour.

We had a blast, and the kids really want to go again to see some of the things we didn't get the chance to do during our stay. So would highly recommend it for Families with kids.
