Returned to Ireland but left again...

    Hello,

I left Ireland in 2011 and have been a non resident for tax purposes in ireland since.

I returned in April 2016 with intentions to stay but left again after 84 days. I hadn't visited Ireland in 2015 and haven't been back since. I worked for 2 weeks while I was home and had contacted the tax office prior to commencing employment so that I wouldn't be emergency taxed. Having built up credits in my absence my 2 payslips only showed USC & PRSI payments. i.e no tax was deducted.

Fast forward to today and I have just received notification from Revenue that I must file a return/ Form12 for 2016. Given my situation I believe I am non resident & not ordinarily resident for tax purposes in Ireland. For this reason I believe I cannot avail of any tax credits. When I logged in to my PAYE Anytime online account to file the return I noticed that 2 credits were already applied, 'personal tax credit' @ €3,300 and 'employee tax credit' @ €1,650. I was able to delete/ remove the employee tax credit, however, by default I cannot remove the personal tax credit and proceed to the next step of the online form. Am I correct in trying to remove these credits for the pupose of assessment? If so, how do I proceed with the online form?

I have no other irish income for 2016 i.e no rental income, inheritance etc. Just the few bob I earned during those 2 weeks that I did some factory work. I did not claim any social welfare during this time period at home either.

Does anyone know how to proceed, should I engage with a tax accountant in order to file tax for 2 weeks work?

    Any words of wisdom welcomed.

    S
