Carers allowance and Rent Allowance

    Hi All.

I moved home to look after my Mam and am receiving carers allowance.

When I moved home I had to sleep on the couch for the first year while slowly renovating a garage/old fuel shed to move into. I am now in the Garage (its attached to the house and very comfortable!).

My mam gets fuel allowance and I am wondering if I can also apply for it. The main house is heated with oil but my apartment is not connected. I heat it with gas heaters. Do you know if, because of this, we can both apply.
We do use the same esb meter but i have my own front door it that makes any difference.

    Thanks in Advance!

Only one person in a household can apply for fuel allowance - if you're sharing an esb meter I think you'd be classed as one household.

Are you getting full payment of carers? If so people claiming full carers allowance aren't eligible for fuel allowance.

I'm not sure whether the title is a typo, but if you were asking about rent allowance too, you can't get it for renting from a parent.

Oops Should be Fuel Allowance. This can be considered as settled now... have my answer.
