Any Experiences with the Boarding Kennels at the DSPCA Pet Spa?

    Hey guys,

Just wondering has anyone left their pets at the boarding kennels at the DSPCA and what did you think of it?

I usually leave my dog into Blackhall kennels in Dunboyne, but it's about an hour and a half drive from my house. I'm due a baby in January, so if I go into labour I don't think a 3 hour round trip to the kennels to drop the dog off would be do-able :pac: I'm going to ring them to find out if dropping the dog up at short notice would be ok, but would like to hear how others found them before I do.

Alternatively, if anyone can recommend a good kennels near Sandyford/Stepaside area, I'd be grateful. The one requirement I have is that the dogs don't get exercised as a group because my dog isn't good with other dogs.

    Thanks!

Not any experience with those kennels but we were in same position last year, baby ready to drop, kennels on standby when 2wks before she dropped i realised both dogs kennel cough vaccinations had ran out, our guy wouldn't have took them so quick trip to the vets was needed.

Ours had her booster before we went on holidays in June so thankfully that's up to date! When you booked your dog in for kennels, did you just give them a rough idea of the due date or how did that work?

Jesus!! Right, well that's certainly very offputting :( I googled it there and saw the newspaper article so I think I can rule out the DSPCA.

Any recommendations for other kennels in that general area?

Yeah, we use Tony up at Athboy Kennels, dogs love him, has an enclosed area for seperate walks etc, just told him that baby is due on 23rd July and we'd be bringing the dogs up at short notice, he was fine with that, in the end she came a week early and he had them for 2 nights, brought them home day before she came out from hospital, when i was coming back from hospital i was bringing a baby grow worn by baby that day for them to sniff, when we brought Aoife home we just put her in the middle of the room in her car seat and let them sniff her, they were fine.

Never excluded them in any way at all and now they get on like a house on fire, especially Pip the younger one, the pair of them (Aoife and Pips) are demons together

When we had our first, we only had 1 dog (who has since passed away) but she was small and got on well with my parents dog, so she just went down to their house while I was in labour and while the hubby was in visiting. Lola is absolutely massive and unfortunately my parents dog just doesn't like her so it wouldn't be fair to leave her down there.

My Dad said if needs be he could drop her down to Blackhall - only thing is it can be awkward getting her into the car when she's super excited.

Is there anything to be said for giving the staff at Positive Dog Training in Sandyford a shout to see can they recommend anyone in the area? They should be pretty clued in to places that are excellent :)

Ooh, good idea! I'll give them a shout in the morning, hopefully they'll know somewhere decent not too far away.
