    Hi,

I have started a commute which entails a bus and then a DART. I can't find anything on leapcard or Irish rail about monthly bus & rail tickets? I only see the annual option on Irish rail.

Is there such thing as a Monthly Bus and Rail ticket?

    Thanks

if your company does Taxsaver then that's the way to go; annual ticket gives you 2 months free and then you get tax relief on top of that.

My company does do it, but only once I pass my probation period which is another 4 months away.

The only thing I can find is the Travel 90 Scheme. Where I get €1 back because I hop on the DART within 90 minutes after my bus. Its something I guess!

You should still be able to buy the monthly bus/rail ticket at full price from Dublin Bus HQ or Irish Rail.

Irish rail no longer do the train and bus tickets.

There are daily and weekly caps in place too, so you won't pay more than €40 per week no matter how much you travel.

Not bad considering I spend €8 a day (€2 Bus €2 DART each way). So weekends are basically free travel if I hit that €40 cap during the week. :)

Are you actually paying that much for the second trip of each direction due to Leap90?

My partner used to hit the 40 a week before Leap90 but doesn't anymore - a Saturday trip stops feeling free even though you're still paying less than before!

It makes you wonder, is Leap90 in place to prevent the cap from being reached? Would you be better off hitting it so that you can have free weekend travel?

And yes. My bus is €2:05. Then the DART from Bray to Connolly would be around €3. So minus €1 with Leap90 and it's only €2 for my DART journey each way.

No and no. You will still hit the cap eventually; the most you can spend is €40. If anything, the entire psychological thing of the weekend travel not being "free" despite having still paid less probably dissuades weekend use. The NTA would love increased weekend use as it reduces car dependence.

This is where I forget how high train fares have gone (above inflation, even for Leap) recently.
