Periodontal cleaning - Can it inflame a "sleeping" problem and loosen crowns etc?

Can there be unintended consequences of periodontal cleaning ?

Can it be like kicking a sleeping dog?

Im told I need it done but, Ive yet to decide on who does what implants for me and I feel that periodontal cleaning may inflame things.

Better to know exactly what tooth issues are present& need addressing, & to have the least amount of calculus/bacteria/inflammation in your mouth, *before* embarking on lengthy& expensive implant treatment.
Think of it like laying good foundations when building a house ;)
