Car went kaput.

18-09-2017 5:46pm#1So I have a 06 Renault Megane and now the toxic emission light came on and car is rattling won't do over 30 km. I don't have to dosh to fix it and know it's something big wrong with it, was a cheap car and was bought over year ago sold as seen. Also don't want to drive it now as it seems unsafe. Is my only option to scrap it?. I'm not putting hundreds into repairing it.
Anyone any idea what this could be.
It's a pisser but it's the way life goes. Really need a car at the moment too and only have 3rd party insurance.
