Edision OS mega

I want to scrap sky and install FTA+saorview.

Its narrowed down to the Edision OS mega – apparently the best on the market at the moment. As a novice I need some advice and wanted to run this by the community.
I wish to distribute the signal to three TV’s operating magic eyes on two of these.

I believe this is possible with two options available to me –> 1-HD, 2-SD

    1-HD option.
Sky dish->OS Mega->HDMI modulator->trilink->Proception->TV. But apparently this config contains delays switching channels.

    2-HD option.
    Sky dish->OS Mega->RCA/scart cable->trilink->amplifier->TV.

Both options only allow one channel to be view on each TV. HD option is approx. €200 more expensive.

Is it worth the extra for HD? All advice welcome.

Do you have a budget for this?
Do you want each TV to be able to operate independently of each other?

You could set up the tuners in one location, and provide independent access to them from each TV location and also from any tablet, PC or phone in range of wifi, although wired is much more reliable.

It is a bit more complicated and costly but many on Boards have done it.
There are a few threads on the subject.

Thanks Johnboy1951 - i'll have a search for those threads.

Since i'm cancelling sky (sports :( ) i have a decent budget. I would sacrifice the 3rd tv to be independent but certainly interested in having 2 independent. But would still want to be able to record.

Here are a few links that might explain some options when you read through.

If you also search for Telestar Digibit R1 device you might find it of interest.
It has 4 Sat tuners and can operate them all from one cable from a specific LNB (Unicable II type). The backend tuner-manager can pick up those 4 tuners from the LAN as if they were internal cards. There are a couple of posters using this device .... including myself.

The HTPC section of Boards might hold more info.

Good luck with your planning ;)

    EDIT:
Another from HTPC section that might be of interest

    Thanks a mill Johnboy1951

For the Linux system, a internet connection is required all the time (for EPG) or just when you want to update the skins etc?

Using tvheadend there are OTA EPG grabbers for Freesat, Sky UK and others, so that seems to be covered.
You can supplement it with other grabbers which use the internet connection.

I think this is way over my head. Sounds great but I'm struggling to even read some of the tech jargon. !! And I don't have cat 5 cable installed. !! Appreciate your time johnboy, thanks a mill for helping.
