Long Amazon delay

I ordered an item from a seller on Amazon in mid-August with an expected delivery date of Sept 26th.

I checked the order status there and it says the item was handed over to the carrier on Aug 31st and is in transit.

What's baffling me is..what's taking so long? I know I was given a date of Sep 26th but if a carrier has it, what's the delay? And I didn't typo; it is carrier, not courier.

    PS It's coming from China.

Has anyone had to wait this long for a parcel?
I am just anxious as this is a birthday present for my Dad.

    What's the baffling issue?
Are you suggesting it should take less than three weeks for something to arrive from China?
Are you aware of the importation duty limit from outside EU?

No need to be so rude. Some of us aren't au fait with the rules and regulations, hence my asking.
    Thanks for your 'input'.

Usually three weeks to a month if coming from China, maybe even a bit longer. And you maybe caught for customs on way through which will be billed by an post and they won't release parcel until paid, if it's a cheap item, then customs duty will probably not apply.

Thank you for that. I never knew those things but now I do. I appreciate your help.
