So, when did they stop accepting the €2 at the toll? Any reason why? Got a nasty surprise on Friday that I could have done without. I know its part of the upgrade but that is pretty inconvenient for car drivers.

What's this? Are you talking about in the coin baskets or at the cashiers? The €2 coin is perfectly legal tender, so no reason why they should accept it at the tolls.

It may be down to fraud. There are some other coins that are very similar but have a fraction of the value.

Well, they aren't taking them. There was a tiny sticker at the drawer with the 2€ crossed out. Something else was crossed out but I was so annoyed that I didn't take it in.

I wondered if that could be an issue. Think the UK 2p is a similar size but you'd think they could get a fix for it rather than banning the €2

Pool tables in France are constantly filled with Sterling due to the similar size.

The machine in Tesco can afford the delay of processing coins individually, the baskets at a toll have to be fast so don't have that luxury. Understandable if it got abused it'd be dropped.

A huge proportion of that M1 traffic is from the North...I'd suspect it's something like a 0.02 p coin being passed as a 2 euro!
I assume they accept the 2euro coin at the manned booth/s?

It must be a recent change; I put €2 in the basket coming from Dublin last Tuesday. However, returning to Dublin, I tapped my Visa Debit card against the reader.

When did they put in card readers? I got held up for a long time last year because I was used to the M4 and only had card.

Currently, the toll plaza is being upgraded. I only noticed the card reader last week and used it on the return journey. Therefore, I am unsure if Dublin bound vehicles can put €2 in the basket.
