Go safe van n11 roadworks

    Hi all

So basically I was coming up from the glen of the downs on the n11 doing approx 80, as was the road signs relating to road works (it's usually 100), approx 20m from the glenview bridge was a 60 sign and a go safe van just under it. I slammed on and am seriously unsure if i got to the 60 within the time needed to not have the van clock me. The car in front never reduced their speed though..
Just wondering if I may have been caught if I'd have grounds to appeal as the works aren't happening just now, just that the contractors haven't bothered to take the signs yet (only in night hours are those signs in need for use too as far as i know, road as normal in day, no need for the signs) and the fact that the van was so close to the sign, there was no hope to drop 20km in approx 20m. It's usually a 100 zone. Would they be going off the registered speed zones there or the contractors signs?

    Thanks all!

You will have to wait about 10 days, if you get a Garda headed letter with Harp in a white envelope in the post in the next 10 days you have been clocked

3 points, €80 fine, fingers crossed for you though

That place is a hotspot for vans, they are regularly there. If the works weren't going on I'd say you'll be fine.

The biggest joke IMO is starting roadworks in the Glen of the Downs during the second week in Spetember. That road has been very quiet since June running way below capacity but some genius said let's do the roadworks in September to ad to the traffic chaos.

Completely agree with you! Very silly time to create confusion on that stretch!! I always expect to see them so generally don't go over the 80 on normal days but the signs for 60 today came right after the bend and noticed the van at the same time. To be honest I'm v lucky no one was behind me with my panic breaking.

Two things went through my head after going past (apart from shizz did he get me)- that he was going to get a bloody load of cars today if going by the 60 and that there'll be an accident with people panic breaking

As far as I know road work speed limits only apply by law if the contractor has applied to the council for it.
This came up years ago when the m50 works were going on but I'm not 100% on the exact rules of it. Something to keep in mind if you do get a letter through the door.

Seen them there myself during the week. There's plenty of stretches of the road where they have the signage in place but no ongoing works.

As above, there is a process for the temp speed to apply. This is normally posted in local newspapers or on the council's website stating the exact start and end for the temp limits. The roadworks been done or not doesn't really matter, it's the official posting that counts. If it helps, do a search online to see if you can find it online.

Think I found it. If it is the area, then the reduced limit applied.

I went through there today too was doing around 75 when I seen the van

Very harsh if done considering there was absolutely no work going on

Knowing this country, get yourself a solicitor and go to court. Judge will look at it and see it's slightly different to the usual and feck it out of court. :pac:

I noticed last week, with most cars obeying the 60 speed limit, early morning traffic seemed to be moving a lot more smoothly than normal. There was a lot less braking at the junctions, which seemed to alleviate the usual "melodeon effect" of everyone slowing down in sympathy.

I tried to drive at the posted limit there yesterday, but only a few were obeying the 60 km/h limit.
So many were overtaking me and carrying on the usual 100km/h limit. So without wanting to cause a pileup I sped up and kept pace with the rest of them. I'd tell that to the fecking judge too, see what he thinks of the situation.

I thought the range on the vans was quite short?

would you know any more on this? I had no idea on the range...?

And @Hal1 your right with that point, theres a real sense of no one knowing what they are doing, some flying some doing under 60, accident waiting to happen! its too much of a mix!

I usually pass through around 6.45am, tried to do 60kmh there this morning and I was definitely in the way. Traffic was doing 75-80 even at that hour.

People show demonic levels of aggression at that hour of the morning on that road though. It's disgusting.

Went through there at 80. It's even in the 100 zones sometimes.

Not going to ****ing slow down.

I tried once for about 5 minutes. And gave up because it just didn't feel safe with evening traffic still doing 90+

North Korea county council must be running low on cash.

Nothing yet but still keeping my fingers crossed there won't be. Had 2 points about 5yrs ago from a van on the southern cross. I deserved them I must say.. been careful since. Apart from this debacle... but got them on xmas eve morn and didn't get the letter until the start of March. I'm assuming things have changed on time frames since but I think I'll be on edge for a while yet.
