The touchscreen has become totally unresponsive. Can be turned on and off but that's it. Have tried the on/off button and home button reboot to no avail.
    Any suggestions please ?

Looks like it needs a new screen. It's expensive for those since the lcd and digitizer are one single unit.

Thanks Jacksie. Out of warranty for 2 months :(

Don't mind the warranty. You have rights under the sale of goods act 1980.
Your claim is with the company that you bought it from, if its Apple, happy days.
    https://www.apple.com/ie/legal/statutory-warranty/

Obviously this only applies as long as you haven't damaged it yourself, and it is a defect with the product.

    Thanks Whiterebel.
Did buy from Apple. It's actually only 3 weeks out of warranty! Trying to negotiate but very happy to receive your contribution.

    Update:
Got onto Apple and paid my €29 euro fee.
Spoke to them on the phone and agreed to send it off to them.
They had a look and very quickly arranged to send out a replacement iPad which arrived today.
Was quite impressed by the whole thing actually given previous experience with different retailers.
Anyway thanks for everyone’s help :)
