Spend the 2k in sorting your own tractor out and hire in a tractor for a few days while your own is away.

    It's worth a look.

If it's a backup you're looking for would it not be better to look at hiring in a tractor? For the amount you may spend buying and maintaining could pay for a good few hires hiring a new tractor with no trouble?

I've a ford 7610 block appears to be leaking water as of today, probably 3k to repair engine with reconditioning engine. Where in Cork can you hire a tractor?

    I'd spend the 3k on the 7610.

It's a good drive from cork to Offaly and 2k plus 350 e to move it. Your almost at same price

Try local contractors. Coming into their slack season from now on with silage done and the end in sight for slurry.

It'll always be worth 2000 euro, so I'd chance it. As long as he can prove it's actually his to sell. (Looks almost too cheap)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,239 ✭✭✭Willfarman

You'd need some aul yoke around the place while your own is getting done. But I wouldn't go from cork to Offaly for it.

Could try a contractor or a dealership. I think there is a place in Kerry brosnans that hire out tractors, don't know where they are tho

Shouldn't always judge a book by its cover. But a tractor that looks that well minded on the outside has probably been that well minded on the inside also. :D

There in abbeydorney but fierce expensive per day

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,110 ✭✭✭cute geoge

If you bought it and it was good mechanically all it needs is TLC you might even make a few bob on it and sell it on

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

At 2k, if it's mechanically decent, just change the engine oil and the oil in the air filter, and work away. Probably a Bord na Mona survivor.
Stick it on Done Steal next spring for 4500. :D

They are rust buckets though, only the panels and the cab are affected, not a bad tractor otherwise.

It's on over a month though so I'd assume a few prospective buyers must have walked away from it.

Oh... You needn't tell me I'm the one that bought s rotten 698T about 10 years ago and have used it to bale most of my silage since.

But I found it was far from well serviced as well as suffering from tin worm. Mind you it didn't take too much to put to work. And has been improved on over the years.

But the definition of mechanically sound on some of these adds can vary hugely between sellers. My only advice here is be careful of potential project tractor when you already have one that may be put right for nearly the same money. If you get tractor for 2k and then need to spend only a few hundred you are getting close to price of the Ford's engine rebuild.

On a closer inspection of the ford it seems as if it's either of the pipes taking water to the cab for the heater as the leak is back too far for it to be the block. I'll only need to cut the two pipes and join them up as the heater doesn't work anyway.

    Happy days......

Ok buy your cheap backup tractor as you now have time for a project ;)

If it was anything other than a fiat I wouldn't touch it, but I'm biased ☺

my biggest fear here would be is that you could have your 2k spend and then still end up with two tractors parked up needing attention and still having to hire in a tractor.

Probably better the devil you know and if your 7610 is in good condition otherwise , id spend the money in keeping her going.

When you rang ur man what money was he looking for that Fiat?

€2k straight up, sounds a bit too cheap if all it needs is tin work.

Really? too cheap? in that state even if it was mechanically perfect, you couldn't ask for any more as it just looks neglected. I bet the tyres are rotten on it too.

I know these suffer from the dreaded tin worm but if it was any way looked after it should still be in better shape.

What I mean is that the seller must know something that could be wrong with it that he's covering up otherwise he'd be looking for more.

It wouldn't have you in bother with the vulture fund lads at that though. Even if you had to spend twice that again to have a functioning machine to peg out a bit of fertiliser and do a bit of topping.. lift a bale. If I was near it I'd be having a look.

I suppose it has pros and cons. Ok it needs tin work but you could end up paying out €1000s in tin work. It could never be taken out in the road as you health and safety would have a field day.

On the other hand it is a 6 cylinder 100hp tractor. If it was mechanically good it could be a handy tractor to keep on an agitator while you have the other tractor on the tank. Similarly it might be handy to put out a big of slurry/fert if you other tractor was the loader/tractor- other tractor could load the big bag of fert or you wouldnt have to be taking on/off slurry tank in winter to put in silage etc.

Would it be hard to insure?

It might have been serviced alright during its life making it mechaincally good but just spent all its life out in the weather hence the condition of the cab and panels.

Finally the big question- he is looking for 2k but how much would he actually accept for it. If you gave him €1400 to take it away for that day would he accept?

Of coarse he knows, I'd be fairly confident there is at least engine and hydraulic issues from lack of servicing. If he was asking 5K I'd still think the same. I'd be willing to bet there are bodged together electrics and it's currently a fire risk.

Also wouldn't be surprised if there are some issues with the brakes.

I don't believe for a second this tractor has been serviced in years and anyone who thinks it might is dreaming.

Having said that it still might be a good buy, but expect there to be work needed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,766 ✭✭✭White Clover

I agree with emaherx's assessment Sam. The tractor looks like it was completely neglected.. I'd bet any money that there is excess wear in every part/component due to lack of grease/oil/ servicing/maintenance and even an odd cleaning.

A 2000 euro zetor I think I'd make sure the wheel on the wheelbarrow was pumped! Them aul fiats never die and The rusty tinwork is only cosmetic.

Loads of little 6911 amd 8011 might be a bit more.

Auld lad sold a 6911 back on 2012. Only used for turf 2 days a year. Previous owner had it from new on a transport box. It was worst decision to sell now. But 1750 was price

We are not just talking about just rusty tin work, there is large parts of that tractor missing. If a lad can't look after the little things then he hasn't a hope of looking after the bigger things.

Also hard to kill an Auld Zetor..... Also hard to stop an Auld Zetor :D

Ye but missed a sweet ford 4610 for e3000 2 weeks ago

Ye the zetor was in great condition and only sold because I had bought my place and bought a 4wd tractor

Both sorry we sold it now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭Nekarsulm

    2000 Euro.
You would get that from a dismantler.
IF it starts on the key, charges, and the brakes/hydraulics and 4wd work, you couldn't go wrong.

You could stand over those era Fiats with a paintbrush, and they would still dissolve in front of your eyes.

My fear Is that the lad who owns that fiat is that one lad who would break a bar in the bog

We all know a lad who buys real clean tractor and absolute wrecks it. Cabs wrecked. Loaders twisted etc etc.
