Heading over for a few days. I know it's a small town and we're not expecting to see a lot anyway, however, are there things that we absolutely shouldn't miss while there? Also, is it worth travelling over to Monte Carlo for a day trip? Thanks a lot!

Go to Monaco for a day trip. Wear nice clothes if you want to get into the Monte Carlo casino.

Do the hop on hop off bus. It's very good. There's roman ruins in nice. And a colosseum. And a castle

    Climb castle hill.

Go to both the day markets and the night markets near the beaches. All the beaches are rocky so bring some decent footwear to swim in.

Walking the old streets of the old town is the beat fun. Use tripadvisor to find good restaurants there.

There's an all you can eat Chinese and sushi restaurant near the train station that was great value !!

Monte C definitely worth a trip to watch the monied folks in their natural habitat.

A trip on the scheduled Bus service up to the village of Éze is another worthwhile element, beautiful Jardin Exotique at the very top of the old winding village.

Cool! Thank you very much guys. How do we go about going to Monte Carlo? Are trains frequent enough to just get on them or do we have to book and schedule our day for it kind of thing?

Any tips regarding public transport? Or is it even necessary?

The trains run from Nice to Monaco regularly. I seem to remember it takes about 25 minutes and the fares are reasonable.

The tour of the Royal Palace in Monaco is worthwhile.

Nice is a very large city. It isn't tiny. Unfortunately its beach is full of pebbles. Some of the neighbouring towns (along the same train route as Monaco) would have better beaches

Looking at the Eze suggestion, we may actually take the bus to Eze then may take the same bus to go to Monte Carlo as it's Monte Carlo bound anyway. If stuck, it's great to know that the trains do exist and it probably doesn't make sense that it wouldn't stop at Eze so surely it should be there as an option :D

    Thank you very much!

    http://www.sncf.com/en/gare/horaires/nice

Train runs from Nice through Villefranche, Beaulieu, Eze, Cap d'Ail, Monaco and onto Menton and Ventimiglia (across the Italian border).

On certain days, Ventimiglia has open markets, with plenty of trinkets, bric a brac and fake handbags.

    For the trains....

In French, Ventimiglia is called Ventmille

    In Italian, Nizza is Nice

It's a great town, beach, old Town different market each day, fish, fruit and veg, bric a brac, great shops, from high end to everyday. Bus to Monaco or Cannes, real people going about their day, beautiful views from the bus, hop off, hop back on, we love Nice and if you get the weather. Get the regular bus from the airport if you are staying in the city, taxi 35-40 euro, 10 min trip.

Trains run to all the neighbouring cities at 20-30 minute intervals. It's a very efficient set up.

There's also a "luas" style public transport in Nice that is cheap and easy to use

Thank you all so much! Will be making a mock up itinerary maybe tomorrow evening. Thanks again!

We would be landing at approximately 9:40pm using the Ryanair flight to Nice. Would there still be public transport available for us at that time? And yes, we are going to stay somewhat in town. Close to the beach, but still in town.

Yes...public buses are 1.50 a trip. Think the 23 runs from the airport back to town. Do not get a taxi. My brother in law got one and met us half way down the sea front. 35 quid!!

If you are a bit energetic you can take the bus to Eze and walk down a trail to Eze Sur Mer. Not a hard walk and you can catch bus or train on to Moñaco or back to Nice.

That's great! Thank you very much! Bus #98 it is, and it's almost a door-to-door service as it's so close to the bus stop. Much appreciated.

Oh, one question actually. Regarding the weekly bus ticket, could we use that for the bus #98 as it isn't the actual airport bus? Or is it the location that that ticket doesn't cover? If it does cover that travel, is there anywhere in the airport at around 10pm on a Sunday that we could buy it from so we could use it straight away?

The only thing that I would be considering about this is the time spent, we don't really want to be going home too late as one of the transport modes from Monaco back to Nice end at 8pm and we would probably want to spend most of that day's time in Monaco rather than elsewhere as that's the only day that we would use for Monaco itself, if that makes sense. We would probably squeeze the Eze trip into that journey, but wouldn't want to spend a lot of time there. Thank you, though! As mentioned above, we will make up an itinerary possibly tomorrow evening so we'll see if we can fit that walk into it. Thanks again!
