any Lenovo thinkpad users out there??

do you use the battery threshold option in lenovo settings? its suppose to prolong the battery life by only charging it to 80% when in AC power

but the thing is..with my laptop in battery mode the charge goes from 40% to zilch in an instance  surely this can't be right?

Are you saying that when you remove your plug from the laptop, it dies quickly? Old batteries can just die, to the point where they no longer hold a charge at all. In fact, it would be expected for all lithium ion batteries to have a definite life cycle, beyond a certain point they will fail.

i get about 3/4 of an hour life and then when it hits 40% it dies...this started when i used the lenovo threshold setting

That is odd. I'm not familiar with this option/tool. Does it work okay without it? I would just avoid it all together if possible. Even in a best case scenario this setting will only barely increase the battery life. So I wouldn't overly worry, it's just how batteries work!

Typing on a 5 year old laptop here, still get 3 hours or so. Not a huge amount off what it got from new! And I certainly have not been kind to my battery in terms of usage.

If your machine is going to be sitting on a desk 99% of the time, is it better to keep plugged in or periodically plug out and allow the battery to run down?

You can read online for days about this. I reckon there's no huge difference. The laptop will stop charging when it is full and it shouldn't affect the battery life leaving it plugged in. That being said, I'm sure there are plenty who would disagree with my opinion. But my 5 year old system has been used and abused and spent most of its life plugged in. Still works fine.

Jaysis, completely missed this. Asus UX32a, mid range ultrabook at the time. Grand machine.
