Lexus service [hybrid system check]

On Lexus website it says free hybrid system check with every service.
Got onto Lexus Cork and they say hybrid check is €60 extra.
Just wondering do the different Lexus dealers set their own prices or is their supposed to be a fixed price for them all?

Go back to Cork and tell them
Maybe mail Lexus Ireland if you get trouble.

    https://www.lexus.ie/owners/servicing-and-maintenance/
The Hybrid Health check is free of charge as part of any Lexus Service. But if you aren't due for a service for a while, you can maintain your peace of mind with a standalone Hybrid Health Check for just €65.

I told the girl at Lexus Cork that's it says free hybrid check but she just said that those were the prices she was given.
The service is enough as it is without adding another 60 on top.

I wonder would the car not bought in Ireland have anything to do with it??

Ring a different Lexus dealer and ask them?

Poor from dealer .... Maybe lucky though as it may cost more in long run.

    Yeah,will do on Monday.
It does say terms and conditions apply for the free check but doesn't say what they are.

It is if they are blatantly ignoring the offer.
What do you mean cost more in the long run?
As in main dealer service cost v doing it myself?

The prices/ offers on Lexus.ie are recommended but are ultimately at the dealers discretion.

That said €60 For a hybrid system check sounds extreme. A visual inspection of the battery system and a scan for fault codes. It probably gets checked as part of the service anyway.

They connect some yoke to it, don't know what it is but some big box kind of thing.
You get a detailed report but also you get a 15000km warranty on the hybrid system everytime they check it so it would be nice to have for piece of mind if nothing else.

Didn't know that. The warranty alone is probably worth the 60 quid although it's uncomfortable paying it if another dealer might do it for free.

    My thoughts exactly.

This is the first time in my life even entertaining the notion of going to a main dealer for a service.

There is a few reasons why I am though.
The car is due it's 40000mile/4years old service.
It's a bigger one than normal with all fluids including diff oil.
I don't mind throwing some extra cash for this as the car is cheap to run.
It's costing me €526 less on tax a year and lighter on petrol than my last car.

I was looking at prices of service in UK and some were saying it was around £400 so was expecting the Irish price to be way more.
The price Cork gave me was €350 and an extra 60 for hybrid check.
The 350 I could live with but 410 is pushing it a bit I feel.
I'd like to have the book stamped and official paperwork though.

Might be worth ringing a Toyota dealer too for a price. Assuming it's a IS300h then it will have the same drive train as the Rav4 hybrid so they should be able to check the hybrid system and do a standard service on the 2.5 petrol lump.

    Yeah, I'll try that baz.
    It is the IS300h.
There used to be a Toyota dealer in Midleton but I'm not sure if they are there anymore.
Hornibrooks in Lismore might be worth a call.
They'd want to be giving the same 15000km warranty on the hybrid system with the service though.

O Callaghan's in Kanturk do Lexus service.

Kearys in Midleton is still a Toyota service centre but they wouldn't have the hybrid equipment.

So it may be standard practice by Toyota in an area that hasn't a Lexus sign over the door do you think?

I see, they are a bit out of the way for me though.
I might give them a call for a price anyway.
I suppose it'll be Monday before Service department can give me a price.

Kearys lost the Toyota franchise but kept the service side.

To suggest that a toyota dealer and official lexus service centre wouldnt have hybrid servicing equipment is nuts.

Did they lose it? I thought they wanted rid, either way they are coining it now.

Different stories doing the rounds at the time doing well alright with Hyundai Renault and bmw although they emailed me during the week looking for me to change to Hyundai.

The signs aren't looking good for Toyota servicing my car.
Firstly I hate people telling me they'll ring me back and then not bother.
Secondly when I rang hornibrooks back they told me they wouldn't do it.

The second place I rang seemed a bit clueless.
When I said it's due a main service with the fluids replaced, he said they only be checking the levels and topping them up.
He did say they could probably check the hybrid system though.

FFS, surely he knows fluids need to be replaced after a certain amount of time!
Don't think I'd feel comfortable giving them my car now.
I'd do it myself but the days of me crawling under cars to change diff oil are no more I'd say.
Last few times I was under cars, my back was killing me after.
Also I want the book stamped and the hybrid system warranty.

I'm thinking I might just go to lehanes.
At least they rang me back and I'll have a courtesy car (something nice I hope) for a €10 admin fee.
I'm thinking the price isn't all that bad when you take in fully synthetic oils and such.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,705 ✭✭✭✭blade1

Just off the phone there with Lehanes in Cork and booked it in for next Tuesday week.
I am getting the free hybrid health check after all.
So it's the full 60'000km service including all fluids replaced including diff oil.
    Filters
    Hybrid check with 15000km guarantee.
    The price is €350.
I am also getting a172 is300h as a courtesy car.
Any open track days on Tuesday week?:pac:

    That's lexus cork ? lol
have to say love their new lexus showroom - Lexus Blackrock might have more sales and stock but lehanes have done better job on premises than them.

    Yes that's them.
Never knew there was Lexus in Blackrock.
    Rarely out that way.

Shouldn't be a problem at all, as long as it's from the EU. I took my UK import Prius to Lehane Motors (PHV version never sold in Ireland too), and they had no problem maintaining the hybrid warranty and performing recall work on the car.

Basically a special OBD-II cable and computer with Toyota's Techstream software. You can get it off eBay, but it's most certainly dodgy Chinese knockoff hardware and pirated software - obviously not going to help your warranty.

Besides that they may inspect/clean the air filters for the battery fans, maybe some other visual inspections, and that's about it.

One thing: Lehane's only used standard 5W30 oil (not the recommended 0W20) for my service. Maybe different for Lexus.

Thanks for the useful info zilog.
I have a few cables as I've mapped a few motorbikes with them.
As you said I don't want to go messing with the car with one just to save a few quid.

I asked about oils and he just told me it would be fully synthetic for both engine and diff but I will be double checking on the day.
One thing I forgot was to ask if they update the software.
Do you know if they do?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

I was able to upgrade the satnav software myself going through the MyToyota UK site, but the free updates are only for 3 years (2012 car, so no longer free for me). Don't know about anything else. The maps aren't great on mine anyway (no live traffic in Ireland anyway).

I have the premium sat nav and had live traffic but I think they free only for 6 months as it's not showing traffic anymore.
I also have Google Street view.
Was the hybrid check free when you got the service?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

It was included in the €155 (I think?) standard service. No courtesy car for me either, though they did drop-off/collect me.

That's a good price so for the standard service including the hybrid check.

When I bought my is off Lexus Ipswich on the 1st of December last year I noticed a lot of CT200's on the road between Stansted and Ipswich.
I suppose dirt cheap to run.
I had to tax my is for the year over there or else Lexus would not give me the car.
Not a bother as a year's tax for it over there is only £10.
