Anyone know anything about a 09 a4 fuel tank and mpg for these cars? I had the fuel arrow at full, drove 275 mainly motorway miles and it was then at exactly half way, is this normal enough? Then I put in 30euro diesel and the fuel arrow is at full mark, I thought would take at least 40 to get it from half to full?

    Cheers

30e at lets say 1.18 per litre of diesel works out at around 25L of diesel or 5.5 Gallons to do 275miles which is 50mpg roughly - seems spot on.

Fuel gauges are only a rough indication as to how full or empty the tank is, they are by no means accurate. The only time I heed the needle is when its at the red line and the light has come on.

In my current car, I seem to get more miles from the second half of the tank than the top half whereas in all previous cars it seemed like I was getting considerably more mileage in the first half.

The only way to find out what a full tank does is to fill to the neck, reset the odometer, drive till the light comes on and fill again and note the mileage done.

Cheers for replies, I just thought 30euro taking it up from halfway to full seemed a bit odd and thought the gauge was playing up!

    It is definitely Diesel anyway.

On the assumption thats it's a 2.0TDI, FWD model, it would have a 70l tank.

As already mentioned by cee jay cee, fuel gauges are not 100% accurate. The fact that it showed it was exactly at half but only 30 euro went in would suggest that the tank was in reality over half full.

Quite common for fuel gauges to drop faster in the top half and more slowly in the bottom half.

Was there not a thread on here last year saying most of the Irish models only had 45 litre tanks unless you specified the larger tank?

    Found it, actually 40 litres...

    Edit that was the B9.

    I have an 09 a4 2.0 tdi.
Tank size is 65 litres as per the book.
With the predicted distance left showing zero miles I managed to get 62 litres in at the pumps and about 75 euros to fill it .
The car does between 600 and 650 miles to the tank but is chipped as well.
Before it was chipped it was doing 550 to 600 miles to the tank.
She does more milage to the first half of the tank. The last quarter it seems to disappear
