Air France charging less than the initial price

    Hi ,

I purchased flights tickets for my family (One booking) with Air France, and AF blocked the total (correct)amount for all tickets on my card at the time I purchased the tickets online. On the settlement day, airlines usually split the authorization amount into smaller transactions matching the cost for each passenger on the booking, however AF only charged me for the price of one person in the booking, release the remaining money blocked back to my account and closed the transaction. This means that they charged me for one ticket instead of 3 even though they initially blocked the correct amount in the card.
I contacted my bank and they said that there are no issues from their side (They didn't decline any transaction from AF) and it's AF who decided the final amount to charge, release the rest and completed the transaction.

I checked my booking online and it still valid and I can see the payment receipt for all passengers.

Now my questions are the following:

    - Did something like this ever happen to any of you?
    - If they later notice their error and just cancel my booking last minute. I will then need to pay for a new and higher priced ticket even though the whole situation is caused by AF not correctly taking the payment. Will this fit into denied boarding or any other EU law if that happens?

    Thanks

The correct amount will suddenly disappear any day now. This is normal enough.

I once booked a ticket with Aeroflot. They blocked the money at booking. Suddenly the money was released. A week later they debited the money. Booking was fine throughout the process.

Forgot to mention that I paid using revolut, meaning that there might be a risk that I don't have the full amount when they will try to charge for the rest of the booking fees.

Your choice to use revolut. If the use of revolut results in the risk you identify, it's up to you to manage the risk - i.e. make sure you have enough funds/credit with revolut so that the transaction is honoured when the airline puts it through.

I don't think that using Revolut over a normal CC would matter here as airlines should take the full payment from the initial authorization made at the time of ticket purchase.

Say I paid with a CC instead of Revolut, and for some reason decided to block and order a new CC, the airlines won't be able to take any payment from the initial CC as it's blocked.

They can only force it if the authorization is pending. In my case, they released the authorization (which was created a week ago), and completed (closed) the transaction.
Any new charge will be considered a completely new transaction.
