    Hi,

My wife hasnt worked in nearly 10 years, well, she works harder than me as full time mother at home to our 3 kids.

She is looking to get some sort of course\ go back to work.

She went down to the local social welfare office and was told they cant help her out, she isnt entitled to anything, they pointed her in the direction of Obair.

So she went down there and was basically told the same.

Im working full time myself so i guess she isnt entitled to anything because she has been out of work so long and im over a certain wage threshold?

Anyways i would have thought there would be some sort of help out there to help people looking to get back into the workforce, is there any avenue we are missing she could go down, other than us paying for a PLC course or something to get her some sort of training\benefits while she gets herself sorted?

    Thanks a lot

No harm to see if your wife could avail of a Springboard Course

    https://springboardcourses.ie/eligibility

From May 2017 Springboard+ offers 6,471 free places on 208 courses leading to awards at certificate, degree and post-graduate level. The majority of courses are part-time for a maximum of 12 months.

There have been a number of changes to the eligible cohorts for Springboard+.

The following are eligible to apply for courses in 2017/18 academic year (subject to the applicant meeting all requirements, e.g. academic requirements):

Homemakers (all courses are open to Homemakers)
People in employment who wish to take a course in the manufacturing sector (e.g. Bio-pharma or medical devices technology) or who wish to take an ICT Conversion course or who already hold a Level 7 (Ordinary Degree) IT qualification who wish to upskill to a Level 8 IT qualification

The unemployed or formerly self-employed (all courses are open to these category of applicants, with the exception of the two year part-time ICT conversion courses which are not open to those in receipt of a Jobseekers-related payment)

Courses open to people in employment are denoted by the "Open to those in employment” tag which can be found in Search Courses
