I've just started a PLC in Software Development, using mainly Java, HTML and Unity. I've a budget of €1000, looking for a laptop that will last me the duration of the PLC and also for when I head into third level. I've zero experience with buying laptops/PCs so any and all suggestions will be appreciated.

Generally what you have to consider is things like size, processing power and cost.

For a programming course I would suggest getting a slightly larger screen. Something in the 14" to 15.6" scale would be where I'd start. Although you would be fine with a 13.3" screen too. The reason I say this is that developing on smaller/low resolution screens can become a chore, especially if you want to have multiple applications/terminals open at the same time.

Your budget should be more than enough, so there's no worry there. Typically these types of courses do not require high end computers as the development is more on the basic side.

Take a look at Dell for a start. Aim for at least a Intel Core i5 processor, and at least 8GB of RAM. You should be able to find a system with a large (256>) SSD which would be a big plus.
