Electric shower acting up

This is a strange situation that started a month or so ago, until then the shower was working perfectly. The gravity fed electric shower still works OK during day time, but evening and night time, it gives only (unusable) hot water. Temp dials don't have any effect on the water temperature and water is not used anywhere else in the house at the same time.
Any ideas what could be the cause? Shower is pretty old by now, I'd say at least 15 years old.

It is sound like you have a mains fed shower and not a gravity.
What's is the make and model of the shower?

Posted the OP from work and from memory I thought it's a gravity fed shower. It seems my Triton T80i is a mains fed shower.

So my problem could be caused by gunk inside the shower? Replacing it wouldn't be a problem given it's age, but if I could get it back in working condition, I'd rather do that.

    Its an antique. :)

You have a water pressure problem. Possibly a leak on the street. It is only noticeable at peak times when your neighbours are using water.

I don't think that model has a filter but if it does cleaning might help

Thanks for that, I'll try and have a look and see if there's something to clean on it.

I don't think there's a pressure problem as we didn't notice any problems with the other electric shower - mira elite 2.

If there's a leak on the street, them I'm screwed :), hope Irish Water will be on the problem just as fast as they were installing the meters.

It's definitely a water pressure problem. The fact that you are having problems during peak times tells me that this is the case.
Your mira elite 2 is a Pumped electric shower & is tank fed. It does not come from the mains. Because it has a pump the water pressure is constant 24/7. Your mira elite 2 is another old shower. You may get years longer out of it but I'd start putting a few bob aside as one will need replacing soon

Thanks for your advice sleeper, gonna definitely put something aside for replacing both showers. And pressure was low before on the Triton, that's why I assumed it's tank fed, we put up with it but the scolding water is a different matter.

It just seemed strange as this problem only started a month ago, shower has been used more or less at the same hours for years.

    PS.
Any advice on suitable replacement if we need to go that route?

That's 100% a pressure issue. I'd be hesitant to recommend anything that is mains fed, and would look into the possibility of running a line from cold tank to shower feed at a convenient location (if one exists).

I had same problem couple of years ago and it wasn't a leak but just poor mains pressure that CoCo wouldn't do anything about.

As Westyirl says above I'd be trying to change form mains fed to tank fed. We seem to be changing a lot of mains fed shower to tank fed. My own personal opinion is that Irish water is reducing the pressure in some area & this leaves mains fed showers useless

Will ask for some professional advice when the time comes.

As you said, it must be IW reducing the water pressure lately as the shower performed flawlessly for years and still does during day time, only evenings and night time it struggles to adjust the temp.

Thanks again both for the advice.
