There is a new model Duster being launched next year, no idea on the Stepway. Duster is only available in diesel also.

Basically Dacias are owned by Renault and use a mix of old and nearly new Renault parts. The 1.5 DCi engine in the Duster and Stepway is the same unit used in various Renaults, Nissans and Mercedes vehicles, it's been around for about 10 or 11 years so it's proven technology. Stepway is available with the 0.9 litre turbo petrol unit which is a fairly new engine from Renault and supposed to be decent enough.

Interiors are basic enough and functional but won't come with quality materials or refined ergonomics, at the end of the day they are a budget brand so that's to be expected in that price range.

I'm interested in the Stepway too. I've seen some around and from the outside they look good! Anyone know what the inside noise is like? Thinking of the 1.5 diesel for a mix of motorway and rural roads. Thanks.

Early Dusters had corrosion problems albeit sorted under warranty. I don't know if it's still an ongoing problem but you'd have thought it shouldn't have been in the first place given Renault influence.

Original EU sold Dusters were built in India which were poorer than the later Romanian built ones. Indian ones have a slightly different grill.

No. If you are looking for that type of vehicle there are a number of alternative models from other manufacturers which, while more expensive to buy, would represent a far better investment for the long term. I'm thinking of the likes of the Skoda Yeti, Ford Kuga, Peugeot 2008, Nissan Qashqai(1.2L petrol) and the Opel Mokka.

Coming from Romania where everyone has a Dacia, I can say that they are well built, decent quality but ****ty comfort, but as mentioned before that's straight proportional with the purchase price.
Personally I went for a 2011 VW, won't even look at Dacia's because I prefer to have a bit of comfort.
They are not a bad choice, all my friends that own Dacia cars are incredibly happy with them, last year I was in a Dacia taxi with 800.000 km on board running on LPG without any engine issues (at least that's what the driver said).

I have a renault, very pleased with it. Basic model has radio but no CD player. Electric front Windows. Feel like your lifting off sometimes great bit of power. 1.6 diesel

Dacia make very good budget cars with a proven reputation for reliability.

I'd try rent one 1st OP for a week or so and see if you could live with it for a long period.
I thought that they might be an option for me in the future but after having one for a while on rental abroad I know now it wouldn't be a car for me and it took a few days to be sure about that.

Think mine was 1.2 petrol sandero stepway.

Because it uses old renault tech/chassis/underpinnings which is matured and reliable at this point but that means it lacks advantages of newer tech/chassis/underpinnings in use such as safety/reduced weight/better suspensions etc.

To me safety aspect is the deal breaker otherwise it is a very logical buy if you are happy with interior quality etc.

I don't understand the urge for buying brand new car that doesn't have the latest tech/safety in it.Buy something 2 years old with those would be my suggestion.

They seem to be well regarded mechanically speaking, if you don't care about brand image, they appear to be a good choice, not many cars that size new for 16 k.
