Parcel Wizard, Parcel Motel, etc. Which do you prefer to use?

I've never used any of these services before as I have a contact in the uk who used to travel backwards and forwards regularly enough, but due to his career change won't be doing so from next week on.

So I am now going to consider using motel or Wizard. As I understand it, this will most probably add an extra day to my delivery from Amazon (whos services I use regularly)

After having a brief read of DPD service it seems to be a charge of just under 4Euro to be delivered to your home. Seems almost too good to be true.

However as both my wife and I work full time, there's not always someone there to take delivery, which is why I like the idea of parcel motel too.

Anyone any personal preferences and heads up on either or?

Which is better value for money etc etc.

    Thanks.

I use DPD. You can get them to deliver to your work instead as you can set up a calendar with them. So say you work Monday-Friday then you can input this into your calendar and if you are due a package on the Friday then it'll go to your work.

It's 3.75 or 3.85 per package and a great service with full tracking and you get told exactly when (2 hour time slot) your package will be with you.

The only negative with regard to Amazon, if you buy multiple items and they ship separately, you will be charged 3.99 per delivery to parcel motel.

Parcel Wizard, I get lots of deliveries for our company with DPD already so the Wizard was an easy switch, Driver knows us well too. Like the predicted delivery slots too, not important as here in work but its pretty accurate so if you are residential you can pretty much time to be in during that time

I've used both without any major issue, I did have delays around Oct/Nov last year but so did everybody else as Parcel Motel were overwhelmed with parcels from the likes of Black Friday deals.

With Wizard its handy because you can choose loads of different locations handy to say where you or your wife works that you can collect from: Mace shops, DPD depots - Afaik they will even deliver to your address when it suits you.

Like all services you will get people who have had issues and no better place to look than here for feedback.
    Parcel Motel

Always someone to take the post, and with a different commute route, I've switched to addresspal by An Post. Slightly more expensive, but no detour and I know they'll only leave packages with someone (unlike my experience with pretty much every courier company when I've got home deliveries!). Also an English address, as some places were extra to the North.

Up until the last month or so I used Parcel Motel, with no issues or delays.

If DPD collect a parcel in the north, and hand deliver it to my house, or work address for \€4, I consider that a bargain.

    Wouldn't you:confused:

I had some problems with Parcel Motel in the past, like delayed deliveries or lost parcels.
Never had a single problem with DPD. Reliable and fast. Not looking back.

    Thanks guys.

Seems to be overwhelming ssupport for DPDa service (whom I already use quite a bit)

I will have to get updating my addresses in Amazon so.

I use parcel motel as I'll guarantee to get packages myself, sometimes even on a Saturday night. My location is very busy so there is an occasional delay but nearly always spot on. I had an Amazon delivery that was delivered to their Antrim address yesterday at 4pm and was in my local box by midnight.

DPD are only good if I can ensure someone is at home to receive the package. The last time I was fortunate enough that my neighbour was but I wouldn't want to be annoying them all the time.

Addresspal would work if you get one of those delivery boxes an post can fit to your house, otherwise delivering to the local post office means for me, only being able to collect on Saturday mornings.

I use PM only for not urgent parcels and won't use them ever again in December.

My last delivery with DPD, they left a note. I logged on and specified where to leave it and and I had it within an hour.

AddressPal is worth a mention also. You can pick pick up the parcel from your local post office. I live in the countryside but there is a post office just up the road from me so I use it a far bit.

Going back when there was just Parcel Motel around I used to use them a fair bit but my nearest motel was miles away so I was glad when the other services started coming about.

DPD is best as they will also send the items back even if they are oversized(ofcourse it will cost you) but parcel motel dont send oversized items back(personal exp)

Parcel motel and wisard has two clear advantages or disadvantages.

A 9 to 5 worker will not be there to receive a delivery. And sometimes getting tot DPD can be a pain. As well as that , the parcel has to be reprocessed at the depot. Which means you have to wait till the next day sometimes to collect. On the other hand. Its handy to arrange a time slot for delivery.

For me the winner is Parcel motel. Its where I expect it to be after work.

And you didn't consider a search no?

I find Parcel Connect very handy. €4.50 per delivery & they'll leave it at a Centra store which you nominate. 5 days then to collect it. You get a text & email when it's at the store.

Parcel Wizard for me 100%. Have used them and Parcel Motel a lot, no issues with either thankfully, but getting items delivered to work for a few cents more pushes Parcel Wizard into the lead for me.

What about Parcel Connect? They offer UK address as well.

What are the dimension limitations/oversized charges?

This is a discussion forum. While not being entirely sure on how to word a search to specifically narrow down who's had experience with either service, which one is more value for money (a bargain some might say) and the pros and cons of either, therefore I asked in the thread I created .

So far I've gained some genuine knowledge in the major difference in the two major operators (Wizard/Motel) including that the delivery to an Irish address was indeed less than four euros and not too good to be true (as asked in the op)

For those who have helped me in my query, I would like to offer my sincere thanks, your knowledge and experience has been invaluable.

A mod (I don't believe you are one) can lock or shunt the thread if they see fit.

    Thanks

    This.

For me it's between AddressPal and Parcel Motel.

AddressPal is extremely convenient for me since I work within 100 meters of the nearest post office. But they can be a bit slow at times. Sometimes up to 5 working days to get the package delivered.

Parcel Motel is grand if you want the item delivered to your motel the next business day. Except during the xmas season, they're a complete disaster then.

Two active threads in Online & Buying that cover both services in detail. Those threads are more suitable.
