His voice is just unbearable that hour of the morning

Poor Al's voice is unbearable at any time of the day!

Didn't know he had a show. Thanks for the heads up. Now I can actively rather than inadvertently avoid.

Likewise......as i can't stand those clowns on 2FM either in the morning I ended up listing to Morning Ireland on Monday Morning.:eek:

Choice is poor. Come back Ian.

I have to say, I thought this guy was intolerable on his stint with Colm Hayes on 2FM. Couldn't listen to him and I was stunned when Today FM gave him a gig. Just not my cuppa tea at all, by any stretch.

But - I've been kinda surprised. My expectations were low and I've only heard minutes of him here and there (including this morning) but I don't think he's that bad tbh! There's far far worse on the radio imo.

When Ian said last week that he'd be off with Al covering I lined up podcasts and playlists for the week. No way I'm starting my day listening to that gobsh*te

If this is a trial run for replacing Ian I'll have to take a long hard look at my options

I agree with you Joe. He is quite funny.

I don't think Ian is going anywhere soon, as he was talking about the upcoming ski trip thing they do every year.

Likewise, as soon as I heard he would be filling in I knew I wouldn't be tuning into today fm any morning this week.
If I'm listening to D&D I switch at 12 without fail, utter crap show.

Alison and Muireann are nice I think but I totally agree on the rest especially that plonker Nicky! Jenny Greene would be OK on her own, yer man Keith is so bloody boring I normally listen to Spotify full time..

I normally listen to Dempsey, I can't listen to Morning Ireland or Newstalk that hour of the morning, need some lightish listening, this week I have given FM104 a listen the last 2 days, anyone got any other ideas?

Gave him two mornings, switched over to 2fm for the first time in years. I found Porter bland, lifeless and forced.

Shows how natural Ian is. Always listen to him in the morning, for me, it's easy listening first thing.

Use tunein or Irish radio player and listen to KC on 96fm or Ray & Jay on Red FM.

I like him, he's doing a good job. No, not as good as Dempsey, but then who could be. But in terms of looking for light entertainment in the morning, he slots right in there.
He has that mix being upbeat and not taking himself too seriously that you need in the morning.

Change station immediately, couldn't suffer him.

I laugh every morning listening to the trio on 2fm. I'd go back to dempsey if they got rid of fifty grub

My Spotify is getting great go this week. He comes on with the alarm as her indoors likes him so I listen but he isn't great. I'm sure he is a nice guy and to be fair is fine on tv but come back Ian. However he is infinitely better than Jennifer McGuire on 2fm, so I'd rather walk to work in silence than listen to that drivel.

  • I think he's a real genuine character, and naturally very funny without even trying. Keep him on.

he's surprisingly funny in a clutzy way on the Ian Dempsey show, Ian could just prerecord a months shows in advance , a bit like Ronan Collins , some many presnters in Irish radio need a rocket up their asses to try something different.

He is not funny, his voice is terrible the usual over top gay comedian. Complete rubbish. Bring george back a mans man.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32 skirteen

I didn't think he was that bad. I'm not a fan of his show in the afternoon but I thought he did a much better job than Hector usually does when filling in.
Al mellowed as the week went on and I think he got a shock when he realised how much prep goes into a proper radio show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,655 ✭✭✭Trekker09

I thought he was a breath of fresh air. Ian pisses me off when he ruins songs by singing at the end, but he's a good presenter.

It could have been worse, Dermot & Dave could've been on the morning slot, all forced laughter and pseudo blokey stuff.
