Importing a Note 8?

    Hey guys,

So i need to get the unlocked version of Note 8 and its around €900-1000 which is absolutely crazy. I checked the prices in the United Arab Emirates and it's selling for around 3400 AED which equates to something around €750.

Anyways, if i buy it from the UAE and my friend ships it from UAE to Dublin, would i need to pay any taxes or anything on importing the cell phone? I've never done something like this so not quite sure if i would need to pay custom duty or any taxes at the time of import or not.

Im going to the UAE later this year myself and can bring the device with me at the end of the year but i just dont want to wait that long.

Paying the import duties depends. The seller my "pre charge" you the taxes during the checkout process as the likes of Amazon US do (they then pass this on to Irish Revenue on your behalf, if they don't and it isn't stopped and opened by An Post on behalf of Revenue then happy days you've saved a fortune. Revenues website is very helpful and you may find that you won't be required to pay tax, some limited items that are meant as gifts are exempted, have a look. I would be more worried about the "Geographical Lock" Samsung place on their phones. This requires the a device bought in lets say UAE, be switched on and used with a UAE sim card in it for a period of something like 10-20 mins. Once this is done the GeoLock is deactivated and a sim card from another country can then be used. No point buying a shiny new phone only to have it turn to a brick when you turn it on. Have a Google about the geo lock before you buy so you'll know how to deal with it, some sellers will do the whole activation thing for you before they send it if you ask nicely.
    Hope this helps.

Has anyone experience with 'Wondamobile'? Seems to be the cheapest SIM free deal i can find on the Note 8 and it has the benefit of being the Dual Sim Model. Works out about €950

    Any input would be great!

I used them once and was happy.

They seem to have plenty of satisfied customers on boards(?)

€224 to the taxman if detected and the seller does less than €30,000 pa to Ireland. Ouch.

After waiting a week with no updates on shipping from EGlobal , i contacted them and they said they didnt actually have any in stock and they were waiting for more , which was annoying because at the time the site said they were in stock.
Ended up cancelling with Eglobal and getting a refund and bought from Amazon , which should be delivered today!
Prices on Eglobal for the note are now €793 which is good , but would only recommend them if you dont mind waiting!
Paid €980 on Amazon with Express delivery.

Bought a Huawei Mate 8 from them about 3 years ago. No problems, delivery took about 2 weeks iirc.

Eglobal is now €734 for the Note 8. Are you certain it can be used in Ireland if bought from this site? Also the one at €734 is N950FD while the more expensive ones are N9500. Do you know what the difference is? Thanks
