Setting up a Student Social Club

Hi - I'm teaching in a further ed college and I've been asked to get a student social club organised. At the moment, there isn't one in the college and it was suggested that it would be good for students to social more both within their cohorts but also across the various disciplines to mix and socialise (it's a fairly diverse student base from business, IT, healthcare, dance, theatre etc).

Just wondering if anyone has any experience of this and if you would have any pointers (I'm not too long in the college so want to avoid any pitfalls while at the same time try to make the club as successful as possible).

Any tips/suggestions/advice would be really welcome.
    Many thanks.
